As someone has previously mentioned 56 is now El Tomate a tapas bar. Having enjoyed visits to 56 we found El Tomate a disappointment. We went for the lunchtime special, for this they give you a small piece of paper with about 10 dishes listed on it. 3 of us had one list of dishes, my wife had a different one, the correct one. You tick 3 items off the list and choose a drink, glass of wine, beer or soft drink. As is the way with tapas, all the dishes are brought together, these were on long wooden boards, about 18 inches long. These were quite difficult to eat off as 4 were too big for the table along with cutlery, side plates, drinks and condiments. The food was quite good but by the time you have eaten one hot dish, the next one has cooled and the third is almost cold.
I have to say that the staff, well the one waitress we saw was excellent and not at all phased by the fact that we had different menus.
One other thing, this restaurant does not take cards, it is cash only. I couldn't find any mention of this on their website and it was not explained to our friends when they booked. Fortunately there are cash machines close by.

Just mainly for info. 56 is now El Tomate a tapas bar. i have heard it is really good as its still the same owner. I PLAN ON GOING AS I HAVE HEARD THEY HAVE A GOOD SELECTION OF GLUTEN FREE FOOD. Indicated on the menu by symols at the side of the meal entry. Made a booking for someone else, small but nice inside.

Having taken a chance and popping by this afternoon for some lunch we felt the need to come home and write a quick review.

We were greeted at the door and instantly made to feel welcome, which with 2 young children isn't always the case.

The food was delicious a real change from the usual Sunday roast. We were served by a pretty, chatty and ever so efficient waitress.

Overall friendly, modern, family friendly place. Can't wait to go again although may book for a weekend evening treat just the 2 of us!
