“New menu is excellent”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

Back for our first visit since the menu changed after Christmas and it's even better than before. Gorgeous starters of foie gras and scallops; excellent mains of tender Welsh lamb (and how reassuring not to have to ask specially for it to be pink) and beautifully presented desserts. Service is friendly and attentive as always - my wife sprained her ankle badly an hour before we were due to set out, but insisted on hobbling in on crutches. I'm very glad she did!

“Excellent Meal”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

Four of us ate at The Tavern last night, there was not one complaint from any one of us. I ordered the Special Pork Dish on the Board and cannot describe in words how tasty it was. I followed that by choosing the Warm Cherry Bakewell Tart with Ice Cream - in a word Scrummy. The place is spotlesslly clean, the staff are helpful and charming and cannot do enough for you. I for one will definitely be returning to this little Gem of an Eatery 10 out of 10 to the Chef and all Staff.

“Great little place”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Drove past this place many times but never called in, it looks like a cosy little pub from the outside with a sign saying fresh food available. Thrilled we called in finally and it will not be the last time....
It was pretty quiet I suppose because it was between Xmas and new year - we were celebrating my Husbands Birthday. The place is very stylishly decorated with good quality furnishings, The food was extremely good, I had a traditional Sunday roast and the beef was cooked perfectly with great Yorkshire and roast potatoes and the Veg was plentiful and also cooked perfectly. Hubby had steak and it was mature and cooked to his request and he stated it was one of the best he had had (this says a lot as he always has Steak when we eat out!). Desserts were fantastic and all the food was well presented, the staff very friendly and efficient. Price was very reasonable and we there were many choices on the menu I would like to try. There especially seems to be a good selection of fresh fish and I liked the list of all the local suppliers on a board. We eat out quite often but have only recently moved to this area, I would recommend it and we will be back.....

“Good food but slightly overpriced”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

This was our first visit to the Tavern and thought we would try out the venue and food for a family Sunday lunch. Overall impression is a very warm welcome and pleasant surroundings with a cozy atmosphere. Starters were absolutely first class - good quality food and excellent presentation on the plate. The Sunday roast main course was something of a disapointment given that the main course was fully plated including the vegetables - not something we would have expected for the price and an dd way of serving up lunch - considering that the starters were so well presented the main course was a real let down. The plates were too small to be pre-plated and the overall appearance was a little reminisant of a school dinner. That said, the quality of the food was faultless although the gravy was a little bit runny and a bit flavourless.

We opted to share a bakewell tart dessert and like the starter was very well presented - and home made.

In conclusion, we enjoyed our visit but there the main course would have been far better to serve the meat and roast potatoes together with a side portion of vegetables. We fully accept that you 'get what you pay for' these days and we enjoy fine food, but on balance still felt it was overpriced. Service was friendly but a little forgetfull. We asked twice for some sauce for our little one and it eventually arrived. Likewise, we asked for a glass of wine at the end of the meal but it never arrived - the waitress then remembered that we had ordered it half an hour prior when we asked for our bill !!

Would we return - yes most probably but not very often given that our first experience was far from perfect and expensive.
