I stayed here with my husband for the weekend we usually stay in the near by holiday inn but this was fully booked so we thought we'd give this a try and I'm glad we did, we stayed in the upper deck double room and it was clean and comfortable with sky tv iPod docking station and Starbucks sachets, the only downfall for the room was the window wouldn't close fully which left a cold draught blowing through, breakfast was quite nice plenty to choose from and the gym was great the equipment was really high tech I just wish I'd brought my swimming costume to have a swim but next time I will, I will make this my new choice of hotel to stay in from now on when visiting family in Flintshire.

We had an overnight stay enabling us to visit Chester and use the leisure facilities in the hotel. We had a double family room which is big enough for 2 adults and 2 children, the room was clean my only issue would be that the bathroom was tired in decor, although it was clean. The leisure facilities were fine and good that the pool has a baby section. The restaurant for the evening meal we felt was poor, the standard of the meal was low and I would not choose to eat in the restaurant if we stayed again. The location is quite far out of Chester but not a major problem. Overall this overnight is good value for money for a family of 4.

We decided to stay at this De Vere hotel following a recent stay at the De Vere chain in Blackpool, which we thought was excellent. it was a good location for Chester Zoo and the Designer village.

We were equally pleased with the Chester branch, although it was slightly more worn. That said we upgraded to the upper deck double in Blackpool but had a standard room here and didn't really notice much difference (other than the bed), both were equally impressive.

First impressions were good with a nice entrance lobby and pleasant/ quick check in service. The room we were given was slightly awkward to get to with our pram as there was some steps to manoeuvre before we got there - to be fair we only booked last minute on a busy bank holiday weekend so was understandable.

The room was a good size with bed, sofa and cot - already set up for us which was handy. The cot was decent quality with nice fresh blanket and sheet. The room was generally of a good standard, clean and well decorated. Plenty of gadgets etc to play with - ipod dock, large flat screen, free WiFi etc. Bed was comfortable although not as luxurious as in the upper deck double rooms. Bathroom was well decorated, not the best we've ever had but above average. Plenty of wardrobe space with a separate area for making tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate.

As mentioned the hotel was very busy due to it being a bank holiday at full capacity. This had its downside as we couldn't use the onsite pub to eat in as it was full/ loud and we didn't fancy the restaurant so we can't comment on the onsite food choices for evening meals. No real issue though as there is a pub directly next to it that we ate at - food was of a good pub level. We did have the breakfast in the morning which we enjoyed very much, plenty of choice.

We only stayed 1 night so didn't get chance to use many facilities but there was plenty on offer including a pool, fitness gym etc.

We had an issue with some guests across from us having a party in their room, not ideal as we were trying to keep our baby asleep and we couldn't get hold of reception to let them know over the phone. However it wasn't long before a member of security asked them to be quiet or head down to the bar, which killed the noise straight away.

Overall we were very pleased with our stay and felt the higher price tag was justified given the facilities on offer and the standard of accommodation.

We stayed in Family More Room for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend. The hotel was clean and our room very spacious with a large bathroom which was ideal for our group. Rooms are dark and lighting limited especially by the full lenght mirror in the room.
We used the pool & sauna/steam room which were adequate but busy with families and we
didnt manage to get in the jacuzzi as it was always full.
You need to have breakfast early to avoid the weekend queues and have freshly cooked food. The first morning was fine but breakfast was spoilt on our second morning by a couple of tables of women in dressing gown and slippers. We are not talking spa type dress more like scruffy bathrobes. Having worked in hotels for many years I feel this is unacceptable attire for a restaurant and that guests should be made to dress in T shirt & joggers as a minimum and not be able to slob around as though they have just got up - Village please take note.
Dinner on the Saturday night was good on the whole, we chose the fixed price menu £12.95 for 3 courses. The starters were awful(eggs benedict and salmon & beetroot salad) neither were as described on the menu, but the main courses and desserts made up for the disapointment.
We enjoyed our weekend visiting Chester and Cheshire Oaks and would return here in the future.

Room Tip: Family More room was very spacious - 2 king size beds and a sofa bed. Room also had an additional so...

24 of us went to this hotel for a 60th Birthday, to see the ABBA tribute band, the package included a 3 course meal.

Firstly I must say the ban were excellent, and everyone was dancing and everyone one in our party and the others parties that were there really enjoyed this tribute band.

Unfortunate every one, certainly all I our party, found the food to be absolutely disgusting, the main taste for both the leek and potato soup (neither vegetable or taste was distinguishable) and the Chicken Chasseur was that of cinnamon ( although some thought it may be aniseed) as we looked around for some one to ask if all was OK, no one was to be found, the waiters were doing a sterling job especially amongst such criticism of the food from many people, but surely someone must have seen the quantity of food being returned!

After the main course was not eaten by myself and as I said many others, I was now in the need of something to eat, there is a carvery type Pub next door, who were great, not wanting a table, I asked for something quick such as a beef sandwich so I could return to my friends as quickly as possible, they were only to happy to help, and apparently according to the staff at this Pub it happens a lot, even the Taxi driver on the way home said that most people say that the food here is not good at all!

2 Adults 2 Children aged 9 and 6.
Stayed 3rd May-6th May in a standard family room
This was our second break at Chester St. David's and we had a great time.
We paid £274 for BB for two nights.
We decided to book another night so we could travel on the Friday after work thus giving us a full day on the Sat, this cost us £115 DBB, cheaper than what we had booked for BB!!!!!
We arrived 9.15pm on the Friday and went straight in for dinner, the restaurant is open till 10pm.
The food and service were both excellent.
One thing we did not understand though about the DBB rate is that you have to pay for the kids meals! a bit stupid we thought especially when they only eat half a dozen chicken nuggets and a scoop of ice cream.
The kids food cost us £14 (not happy)
The room was a little on the small side but we made do and we had no complaints about the cleanliness.
We spent Saturday in Chester (the hotel is 10 mile from everywhere, all motorway) then returned to the restaurant again for our evening meal.
The place was full and we had to wait a while to be served but the staff were doing their best and it wasn't really a problem for us.
Sunday was spent at the Zoo or should I say we spent an hour and a half at the Zoo, not really for us.
Once you have seen a lion they all look the same so we left and went to Cheshire Oaks.
Again we ate in the hotel restaurant and again we had no complaints.
There is a pub next door to the hotel with a small play area for the kids but its more like a local loud pub where people seem to take their children and bung them outside while they get drunk, not really our kind of place but most people seemed to be having a good time.
The breakfast at the hotel is very good, we have had a better choice of food in other hotels but everything was hot.
We have stayed in many of the worlds top hotels and had many a stone cold breakfast served to us so well done to the kitchen staff.
In fact well done to everyone for making our stay at Chester St. David's such a pleasant one.
One thing I must say is that the bar area seemed to be used by a lot of the local yobs who were out of order shouting and swearing etc, this put a lot of people staying in the hotel off from having a drink at the bar.
Maybe this needs to be addressed!
I understand that these hotels need to make money but when paying guests refuse to use the hotel facilities something is wrong.
All that aside we did have a good time at Chester and if we ever visit again we will be staying at Chester St. David's.

Room Tip: Some rooms are very noisy so if you have children ask for a quiet end of the hotel.

Picked this hotel for location for a long weekend away and based on how it looked on the Village Hotels website.

First problem encountered was an almost total lack of signage - we were directed from reception to go through the in-house Starbucks and a little further for the lifts to the 2nd floor, but got past the coffee shop and got lost until a helpful member of staff said the lift was infact broken and directed us to another. But without signage we almost got lost again! NOT what you want after a long journey.

We'd chosen an Upper Deck room and to be honest was expecting something a little larger but it was okay for a couple; it was a nice, modern room though and nice to have bottled water provided and Starbucks branded tea/coffee.

First problem was the very ill-fitting window which let through a significant draught, so you couldn't really sit on the sofa near the window for long. Found that we hadn't been given the password required for free wifi access and to avoid the long walk back to reception, I phoned - but there was no answer. Found out that we should also have been given a special Upper Deck code for "exclusive content and offers" on the Village website. Despite being told that we had a "full Sky TV entertainment package", we needed a code to see any movies and we hadn't been given that, either! The bed was every bit as comfy as promised on the website with wonderful duvet and pillows, and the Bose sound dock was useful too. Dark wooden Venetian blinds and a Roman blind with blackout lining also helped us sleep very well indeed, and the shower was very powerful.

Arriving at the Verve restaurant for dinner on the first night (having made a reservation via reception when we checked in) the waitress who greeted us got our name wrong and although we corrected her, she continued to use the wrong name!! Arriving at 8.45pm the restaurant was quiet but service so very slow. We overheard the couple at a neighbouring table wondering aloud if the staff had gone to the supermarket for ingredients! Food was okay but nothing special; starter of salmon with beetroot & salad was lovely, but 'fat chips' with the main course were just greasy potato wedges.

Breakfast the following morning was very, very busy - restaurant heaving so we had to eat in the neighbouring bar/grill. Not the full range of food left and some of that was over-done and dried out, also fried eggs sitting on a plate full of oil. Lack of signs in the area mean people wandering around looking for things, generally disorganised.

Dinner on the second night was a similarly chaotic affair - restaurant again heaving, we were greeted promptly and warmly and promised that our drinks order would be taken quickly -20 minutes later we were still waiting and flagged down a waitress who couldn't even manage a smile and looked like she didn't want to be there. The queue for the carvery was HUGE, situation exacerbated by the queue for the cold meats (placed immediately before carvery) and the two queues were combining...would be helped by the cold meats table being moved elsewhere. When we eventually got to it, the hot food was better than it looked. We looked in the garden area with a view to sitting out there but there was so much rubbish lying around it didn't make for a very nice environment.

We found that breakfast on the following day was much more organised if you go early - we got there at 8am when the restaurant opened and everything ran much more smoothly.

However on checkout, we checked our bill to find that we'd been charged for breakfasts which were infact included in the price we'd booked at! So a word of warning - check your bill carefully when you leave, BEFORE you pay.

So all in all, a satisfactory stay but not as special as the 'Upper Deck' tag suggests - and the disorganised, chaotic restaurant lets down the whole place. With a bit of attention to detail (room maintenance and signage), and sorting the restaurant, this could be a very, very good place to stay!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the rear of the building, NOT the dual carriageway! And check how well the wi...
