Stayed 1 night in an upper deck room for our wedding anniversary. I paid for champaign, strawberries and chocolate in the room on arrival....these weren't there but friendly staff on reception resolved this issue quickly when I reported it.

The upper deck room was large with a nice tv package included, good if you're staying in the room for any period of time. Sky sports, HD and selected sky movie channels included, no record feature though.

The upper deck room was advertised as having what we believed to be a Starbucks package, this turned out to be basically Starbucks branded tea and coffee samples in the room, a little let down, but we may of been naive.

The hotel itself was very much in theme with most other village hotels, so no surprise there.

Staff were all very nice and accommodating.

Food was ok, evening meal had a steak and ordered it medium, but it was rare IMO but nothing too problematic. Good value 2 dine for 29 quid available in the evening, took advantage of this. Breakfast was self service buffet but very nice. Restaurant was nicely presented and well lit.

Did not use the spa or gym so no comment.

There is a bar and restaurant across the road if you are staying a few nights for variety.

The wifi available hotel wide was very good and free with the password from reception.

Rooms was quiet overnight.

Not a lot in walking distance.

Oh and in Wales not Chester.

We booked 3 nights at this hotel earlier this month. I have to agree with some of the other reviews... our room could've used a bit more cleaning before we arrived. While looking for the hair drier, I found some crumbs inside one of the desk drawers. Later that night, I was standing by the bed when I noticed some spills of coffee on the wall above the radiator. In the bathroom, the sink drainer was not working as it should. After washing my hands, there was always water still waiting to be drained. Outside of all this, the room was nice. We had an upperdeck room with all the extras as they described. On our second night, we heard children voices and toddlers cries coming from the next door room, which is quite annoying at 7am. We thought children were not allowed in upperdeck rooms, but apparently they are at this hotel.
The buffet breakfast was just ok. Too much grease for me, to be honest. So I stayed with the granola/musli mix and yogurt.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights and had four rooms and have to say we had fairly low expectations as there were several mixed reviews on here, but the price was right as it was a half price deal on booking.com However I'm delighted to say that apart from a few minor negatives we were pleasantly surprised.

The rooms were clean, well maintained and the double beds covered with crisp clean sheets as you would expect. There was very little draw space for clothes but wardrobe hanging space was adequate. The bathroom was clean and the towels fluffy, thick and white. The room was light and airy and facilities such as free wifi a real bonus and greatly appreciated. The room felt spacious and decor was contemporary.

We went down for breakfast on the first day to find seventeen people before us in the queue to be seated. After a fifteen minute wait we were indeed seated by a very apologetic and friendly member of staff which made up for the wait. The food at breakfast was laid out under heat lamps hotter than the sun (okay I can be prone to exaggeration) which baked the eggs on impact. If you didn't get to them when they came out freshly cooked you were faced with hard baked eggs which is a shame as this could be avoided with less harsh heating lamps. (and yet another hotel that seems incapable of basting fried eggs.) The heat lamps also made the serving spoons too hot to touch so serving yourself was difficult. Otherwise the food is okay, plentiful and choice good enough. Great toasters by the way, worked well and fast so no queues formed which is usual with these things.

One of the few negatives is the lounge just off the bar on the ground floor. We went for a drink before going out to dinner. We found a table and the table had been cleared of glasses but had not been wiped so was covered in drink spills and rings and rubbish on the floor. We looked around and saw several other tables the same and various bits of rubbish throughout. It is badly in need of someone to clear and clean as they go and it was unkempt in décor too with paintwork and walls scraped with chairs etc. A maintenance person could or should be addressing these issues on a daily basis to keep it looking good.

There is a swimming pool and spa which is nice to use and towels supplied on entry and also quite a good gym. A great facility if you have time to use it. Its also only a short drive to Cheshire Oaks or to the market town of Mold and the Welsh hills of Snowdonia and Loggerheads so plenty to do if staying in the area.

This hotel is described as four star, I would say it's a three star. The staff however are four star in attitude, personal appearance and effort. We saw smiles, efficiency and courtesy throughout. Management of the few issues we have mentioned need addressing but otherwise I would say stay here if you can get it at a special rate. If it is full price I would say try and cut a deal because at full price it is a little overpriced.

We will use this hotel again because overall we felt it was good enough for what we had paid and they are clearly trying. The great staff and cleanliness of the rooms means our requirements were met and exceeded in some aspects. With some good management strategy and extra effort this could be up there with the four stars.

We had a good weekend break here. Shame we got snowed in. The staff did there best in such bad weather conditions. Provided us with shovels to move some of the snow. A tractor did manage to get in on the Sunday to help clear more of the snow away.

Room Tip: Choose an upper deck room.

I misread just exactly where this hotel was, fancied a stay in Chester, and this was advertised as being in Chester by the hotel chain. My fault but why say Chester when its 14 miles away over the Welsh border!
The hotel is a dark and dingy place, even though its a custom built chain...long dark corridors, the bar has no windows and is expensive with poor beer - than goodness there is a pub across the road which sells decentish food and beer.
Breakfast was a bit chaotic went down just after nine, as did pretty much most of the hotel...had to queue????? bit Hid -e- hi...staff were very pleasant and helpful, although one young waiter, didn't understand the concept of waiting until you have finished before taking plates away, bit rude, but put that down to poor training...

Tea and coffee in the room was awful, all choices put in the empty cups which you had to empty and spread all over the side to use the cup, no spoons just wooden stirrer - rubbish!

All in all, i wont be returning, had an upper deck room, thought we had a bargain only to find another couple had something the same cheaper, which they booked later... wasn't available when we tried to book!

Village hotels OK if you like the gym/spa and a cheap stay, not great value for money, ill avoid Village hotels at all costs in the future - leave it for the business trippers!
