“Perfect ending for Offa's Dyke Path”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2012

A great pleasure to have been the guest of Malcolm and Swan at the conclusion of walking the Offa's Dyke Path in May 2012. Having decided to cover the stretch from Clwyd Gate to Prestatyn in one day ( 24 miles ) I knew I would be late arriving and when passing by Plas Ifan at about 8 pm on my way to the seafront finish ( Plas Ifan is directly on the ODP about 1 miles before the finish ) I dropped in to let my hosts know I would be arriving from the finish about 9.30 pm intending to have a celebratory pint at the seafront and then hobble back, Malcolm immediately gave me his mobile number and told me to phone when I had finished my beer and he would collect me and backpack from the finish - this set the tone for a lovely stay, beautiful room, lovely gardens and just the sort of relaxing atmosphere needed to savour ( a little painfully ) the sense of accomplishment in finishing the O.D.P..

Stayed here the night prior to starting to walk the Offa's Dyke path. Plas Ifan is an old rather quirky building, but very comfortable - we had a room at the front with a large private (though not en-suite) bathroom.Malcom and Swan are very hospitable - tea and muffins on arrival and a lovely breakfast next morning.

After finishing the Offa's Dyke way, it was a pleasure to stay in such a pleasant B&B, with friendly and welcoming hosts. The garden is beautiful, and the rooms very clean and comfortable. An excellent cooked breakfast.

I can not say how wonderful the hosts are, and the kindness they showed to my wife.

Location - for me it was excellent, just outside the main high street, but within easy walking distance from the shops, pubs and restaurants.

A perfect place to congratulate yourself after completing the Offa's Dyke or just a break.

I've had the pleasure of staying with Malcolm and Swan on a number of occasions recently and would thoroughly recommend Plas Ifan. The rooms are very comfortable, the breakfasts are excellent and Malcolm and Swan are very helpful and accommodating.

A first glance at Plas Ifan might lead you to think more poorly of it that it deserves. The gardens around the building are lush but certainly not overly manicured. The building itself it solid but definitely not overly maintained. But do give it a go! Michael and his lovely wife Swann have created a little haven of peace where you can relax and unwind and they will go out of their way to take very good care of you. This is not the lavish kind of experience you will get in one of the chain hotels. There are no special facilities to speak of but you may find that the place grows on you nonetheless. The wonderfully light and airy extension to the building is hung with many pictures and there is even a rather old piano there you can play if the mood takes you. The bubbling fountain by a little footbridge in the garden adds a gentle Zen-like quality to the place. Nothing here is new. Nothing is old beyond its function. The breakfast is well prepared and served with gentle care. There is free WiFi available should you want it. Recommended.

My partner and I stayed here as our first port of call before tackling the Offa's Dyke Path. Despite only having hiked up the road from the railway station, we were delighted with Malcolm and Swan's hospitality, which must be a godsend to those travelling the opposite direction up the Dyke, and for whom this will be their last stop at the end of an arduous journey. We were given pink lemonade and sponge cake in the idyllic garden round the back and then left to settle into our room, which was big and well appointed. Though the bathroom wasn't en suite, it was private and came with a welcome bathtub.

Prestatyn, we discovered, isn't the world's most welcoming town, with kids driving down the main road yelling stuff and randomly giving us a two-fingered salute. . . thank heavens then for Plas Ifan, which ensured we had a lovely stay overall.
