Having previously eaten at the Berwyn for Sunday lunch we decided to book in for Christmas Day lunch. On arrival we were greeted warmly by Debbie and given a chilled glass of bubbly. We all chose different starters, for example duck confit with mulled pear, crab cakes, a trio of baked cheeses, all of them were delicious. Our starters were then followed by the fish course, smoked salmon parcels stuffed with a dill cream cheese, next was a refreshing lemon sorbet. For our main course my husband and I chose the traditional turkey option with all the trimmings plus side dishes of roasted vegetable and gratin dauphinois, so tasty! Our daughter being a fish lover chose the Sea bass with prawns and chorizo, which she thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert you could choose from about sixteen tempting puds, for example Baileys cheesecake, apple pie or Christmas pudding, we were spoilt for choice. All the food at the Berwyn is homemade and is superb. If we had any room left we could have then had cheese and biscuits with our coffee, followed by mince pies and chocolates but we were all so full owing to the generous portions we had to decline.
We have never eaten out on Christmas Day before but this experience at the Berwyn was so relaxing and enjoyable that I don't think it will be the last time we will have our Christmas lunch there. Debbie and Ivor are wonderful hosts, they really do make you feel so welcome, being a small restaurant it is kind of like having dinner in someones home! It is also great value for money. A big thank you to Debbie, Ivor and their staff for a wonderful Christmas Day.
