Acres of golden sand, great view of snowdoniaI mountains, and if you walk a little, quiet. Best out of season

A short walk from the car park, over the dunes (not suitable for those who don't like to walk up hill!) brings you to what must be one of the finest beaches in Europe. The great thing is, turn either right or left and after five minutes walk you have the beach to yourself, even in the holiday season and when the sun shines.

Wide, clean and very very long! Beautiful fine sand and rolling sand dunes, the sea is very shallow and perfect for paddling ans swimming.

A very large beach, great sand and sand dunes. Not that busy during our visits (can't understand why, but very grateful!). Great for a day with the kids and/or a beach walk following dinner at one of the pubs or restaurants in the town which is on 5 minutes away by car.

We planned our trip to Harlech over the August bank holiday week and decided to go to the castle after a few hours on the beach. Fortunately the weather was great (22 degrees plus) so we decided to go for a swim in the sea, which wasn't too cold and the waters were crystal clear. Ok it wasn't as warm as when we were in the sea in Malta three weeks before but it was the first time I have been in the sea in Britain for years. The beach was immaculate - no rubbish whatsoever although bins could be provided - everyone must have taken theirs home with them. There are no real amenities except for toliets at the car park (0.5 miles away) but there is a useful Londis stores for drinks, sandwiches and snacks just before the car park. The beach was relatively empty - a real gem!
