Owner description: Completed in 1290, this is a fine example of a concentric circle, with outer walls serving as a line of defense around a series of inner walls and the main living quarters.

Seriously not to be missed, we took our 1 yr old and 3 yr old the castle dominates the landscape and once you've climbed all the steps which is a killer holding a toddler you get fantastic views of the sea and Snowdonia, you can walk around the perimeter walls high up, and a lot of the towers are accessible which the children (and me) loved exploring. There's a train station walking distance also.

Fab castle. My legs are still shaking from climbing one of the tall towers but it was great fun. Plenty for children and adults for a couple of hours. Children (7-5) loved it. Shop was good too, friendly staff. The toilets were super clean as well.

This is my favourite, small in area but perfectly formed. Pure raw power in stone perched on the cliff edge. As a visitor attraction there are no frills but for me this isn't required, the castle needs no adornments

My second visit to Harlech. This time with my wife. Enjoyable experience including a pleasant walk through the centre of the village. They are building a visitor centre in the old car park in front of the castle that will be good when it opens. Looks like next year. Visitor shop on entrance with literature. Good value for an afternoons visit. Climb up the tower with care and onto battlements well worth it. Read history of Welsh castles just inside gatehouse on left hand side.
Even if it's raining some shelter but impressive castle.
