“Very entertaining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

Brilliant for the children to explore and pretend to be knights of old. Lots of steps, which when it is windy is not for the faint hearted! You can make as much of a day of it as you like it is not huge but we spent rather a Long time there with a 5 and 8 year old in their element! There is a small play park just outside with picnic tables. We bought some lovely pasties from a nearby bakery and had a great lunch!

“Approach from the top road”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013 via mobile

Best to avoid the A496 as the approach to the castle is up a steep road. I laid a bit of rubber up the hill :-) by accident as I met cars and pedestrians coming the other way. Not a place to stall and do a hill start. Follow signs and come in from the top. The roads in can get congested. The car park is woefully small and I saw no other options other than parking at the bottom of the steep hill. We were lucky and got a space as people were leaving.

The castle is impressive. Great views over the coast. You can climb up onto the walls which offer a vertigo inducing experience as there are no barriers and the side walls are low. It gets windy on top so take care.

I didn't spend much time reading the information boards, too distracted with the views. Still rate this highly. Worth a visit.

“Truly atmospheric castle”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

The castle towers over the flat land between it and the coast as it stands on a rocky crag. Once the sea lapped around the base of thes rocks. It is very atmospheric with views across to the mountains, and the Welsh flag proudly flying over the castle. It is worth climbing up as many towers as possible for both the experience & the views. If you like steam trains it is worth driving north to Pothmadog which has 2 steam railways there now.

“Not ideal to visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2013

Tried to visit castle but car park was full, once you drive past the castle the hill down is so steep its impossible to get back up it, severe lack of parking here so we drove past the castle and had to go somewhere else. visit a different castle instead especially if you have a big car.
