“Good Zoo”
Reviewed June 29, 2012

Those "terrible" reviews were the most frustrating ones I've ever read. I've been to a few zoos in my life and although this isn't the best, it's pretty good. For people complaining about be enclosures, are you blind? O i'm sorry, did you take a wrong turn and missed the African nature reserve? And dirty sea lion water? What do you expect, a tank full of bottled Pierre water? They can't have crystal clear water made clear BY CHEMICALS. And if you bother to read the info about the animals you will find alot of them are rescued from Really bad circumstances, this zoo provided them a very decent home and like alot of zoos, depend on donations and visitors to make this possible.
I can't comment on the food as I didn't have any, but if you're in the area, I highly recommend this zoo.

“Lovely little zoo!”
Reviewed June 29, 2012 via mobile

Just read some of the bad reviews and am wondering if I've actually been to the same place as everyone who rated it as terrible?! We had a really lovely walk and saw some interesting, unusual animals as well as the more familiar ones (our favourite being the guinea pigs!) I agree that the chimp enclosure wasn't great (cracked glass etc) but after spending some time with the chimp keeper could tell that they really do care for the animals and know them very well. The bear enclosure was one of the best I have ever seen. Overall the animals, particularly the tiger, look very healthy. I wouldnt expect the water in the sea lion / penguin tanks to be clear as this wouldn't be natural. Swimming pools are only clear as we use loads of chemicals to keep them that way - so i wouldnt expect these pools to be the same as these are for animals which need to be kept as natural as possible. I have visited zoos around the world and seen real bare concrete cages with only bars around them. As far as animal welfare goes, I think they are doing a fine job at this zoo.
I would advise people who have concerns over the animals welfare to speak with the keepers. Ask why the water isn't clear or why the tiger is alone.... It's easy to judge without knowing the full story.

“It's not the size that counts, it's what you do with it!”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

If you're expecting a lovely, flat, tidy, landscaped, organised zoo trail, this is not the zoo for you. It's wild, untamed, as much of a good walk as anything else, and full of as many lovely plants as animals. We loved it for its country charm. The staff are great, helpful and informative, and the zoo has an impressive array of species. Climb to the uppermost point of the zoo and you are rewarded with spectacular views which alone make it worth the trip. The talks and feeds were excellent, and it is obvious that the welfare of the animals is paramount, such an important factor. Definitely good value and excellent for kids (lots of play space!) and adults alike. Wear sensible footwear, and if your mobility is dodgy there will be some parts of the zoo which may be hard work for you. However, they've done their utmost, accessibilty-wise, they just can't help that their location is mountainous! Well worth a visit if you ate an animal lover.
