“OK, shame about the pier!”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

The recently opened Porth Eirias water sport area is an attempt to win back visitors. It seems to attract day visitors with petrol-driven watersport in mind. Catering facilities appear to currently be minimal. The new beach is a pleasant expensive addition, but spoilt by the nearby rusting hulk of the pier that will hopefully be "dispatched" by a severe winterstorm. The initial impression given by the extremely dilapidated pier for visitors arriving on the promenade from the town centre must be poor. OK, if you remember your bucket and spade.

“Porth Eirias and Beach”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

The long awaited development on Colwyn Bay promenade has a completed building and the beach has been re-profiled to provide better access and a large usable area even at high water. The building has plans for several units inside but little was available on our recent visit. The roof area and external ground floor area is looking good including childrens facilities and a boat launching area.
The beach had been cleaned early morning and although plenty of people were around in the afternoon it still looked pretty good.
The only downside is the continuing eyesore of the neglected pier. The council must address this while it is still possible to restore it. Further talk and no action will result in a pile of scrap in the sea instead of a pleasant attraction to a seafront which is at long last showing signs of recovery.

“Lifes a beach!”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

Have lived in this area for a number of years and can say this is one of my favourite places in North Wales. The beach has been improved recently and a range of watersports on offer. Great for long walks, peaceful and clean.

“Nice but nothing special”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

Honestly, it reminded me a lot of Long beach, WA. It was pretty but nothing all that special. If you're looking for a more palm tree, white sand kind of an experience than this is definitely not your cup of tea. It's more cold water, even in the hot heat of 30+ C we were in, lots and lots of sea gulls and other types of birds that like to fly around the bay, and a very flat landscape stretching as far as the eye can see. Let's say it wasn't too lively, although there were people visiting either on holiday or just taking the afternoon to go sit out and enjoy the cool breeze.

I would recommend visiting it only if you happen to be there, but it's nothing to go out of your way to find.

“New Beach!!!”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

The new beach between the Pier and the new Watersports Centre/Promenade is fantastic. Lovely sandy beach, never covered by the tide.
The watersports centre has just taken delivery off canoes etc just waiting on their safety boat and will then be up and running. Swimming/sailing area clearly marked with safety buoys. Toilets and showers inside the building. Showers outside on both sides of the building. Play area for the kids. Food kiosks still there.
