“First time at the Toad”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

I live locally and for whatever reason have not been to the Toad for over 20 years. We gave it a try and were very impressed with the quality of food , service , surroundings and also the value for money. It will not be 20 years next time and plan to make it a regular.

“A wonderful pre-theatre treat!”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

We pre-booked our table as we were going on to Theatre Cymru to see Scrooge. We were welcomed very professionally by a member of staff and shown straight to our table, which was located adjacent to the impressive floor to ceiling timber fire surround, complete with a gas fired wood stove. This room, on the 1st. floor, is tastefully decorated and boasts an impressive view over the bay, highlighted by the promenade lighting. The main menu is a one page affair, with a selection of light bites on the rear. There is a specials board on the wall close to the well stocked bar. Our starters were Portabello mushrooms x 2, and Glanwyddan goats cheese x 2. Our mains comprised of 10 oz. Gammon steak, roasted supreme of chicken on a bed of risotto, and north coast fillet of cod x 2. The service throughout was excellent, possibly helped by the fact that we, at that time, were the only diners, having booked a 5.30 spot. I swear that my gammon steak was the best I have ever eaten, complete with chips. sweet pineapple fritter and a fried egg to top it all off. My wife and our two friends all stated that their meals were perfect. Our drinks were 2 x 250mm wines, a Marstons bitter and a Stella Artois, both pints. The ambience of the establishment could not be truly appreciated, due to the fact that we were the only diners at the time but the meal itself was enjoyed by all and we shall definately return to sample more of the excellent food this restaurant provides. The bill for everything amounted to £22.50 per head, which we thought was excellent value.

“Lunchtime specials”
Reviewed January 10, 2014 via mobile

Went today for the first time to The Toad
I had the chicken with garlic and ginger in a sweet chilli sauce and wild rice
For £5 it was ok though the chicken was very sparse - four tiny strips and dry - but it was a special
Other special was a small plough mans which again was as small as expected. One slice of bread and two slices of cheese and a small pork pie. Again it was £5
All in all was ok but wouldn't go here for lunchtime specials again as there are other places that sell good food on a specials menu that do offer more.

My friends and I go to the Toad on a weekly basis, We average a group of 4 to 6 people every Tuesday lunchtime, and thoroughly enjoy both the food and the very good service from all the staff.
