“Obnoxious owner, Poor food, Dirty Glasses.”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

Experienced dismal food here, wine glasses were sent back TWICE as each time had lispstick on the times, landlord spoke appallingly to staff and was no more polite to us, a miserable visit and one I wont be repeating.

What can I say! Beware the photos on a web site for a Hotel. They do not have to put a date on them but about time they were made to do this. The Monachty in Aberaeron ,Wales is a place that sure needs updating A.S.A.P. and web site information too.
On entry to the Hotel did not look too bad but things soon changed on the way to the bed room. The place would do well to get a nice lick of paint all over the place.
The bed room on first looks was fine then as we had just had a three hours plus driver down from the midlands. We just put the clothes away and went for a walk round to see what the place was like. Lovely small village with what we could see a few nice places to eat and drink but the menu in the Hotel did loom rather nice and we had both liked the sound of the steaks that they did. So that night we got ready and popped out for a couple of drinks in the village. The Castle Hotel was very nice inside clean good service and wish we had booked in at this place but it was full when looking for hotels. The also had an Italian style restaurant at the side which was part of the Hotel with a good menu but we had said we would eat were we had the room booked. So off we went back to the Monachty and got a drink and looked at the menu. We asked if we needed to book at table but got told NO just go and find a table then come back and place order. The tables where not set out for dinning with nothing on the table at all. The place had very poor lighting and just one party on about six in it rest of tables empty which made us wonder.........!
My partner went to the bar to order the food and got a shock as the items on the menu and on the web site where not avalable at all NO steaks what so ever what a joke..! Website says yes staff say no! Plus asked to speak to manager but guess what there was not one on site may be later. So with this we left the Monachty so called restaurant ( Joke) and went back to the Castle Hotel to see if we could get a table in the Italian restaurant as was after there last order time. The rang upstairs and said yes no problem. Well what a lovely place to eat staff nice welcome menu small but good food to choose from. Quite a few people inside too and lighting and the lay out was such a blessing after what we had seen. I will be writting a sort review for the Castle so watch out. By the way back at the Monachty we went to bed after a lovely meal and drinks and fell asleep after a very busy day. During the night my partner noticed a blue flashing light in the room..? She thought it may be outside but looked closer and it was coming out of an electric fire in the room which had also got a broken plug on it so switch off very quickly. We woke with stiff backs as very hard bed a very small one pillow each. The shower was just a laugh a minute took us that long to work out we think the water was running out as could not get tempature correct due to broken control on shower. We where in a rush to get down for breakfast as only did 8am to 9am so no sleep in what so ever. Cornflakes were nice breakfast was not finished by myself and I love cooked breakfast on a Sunday morning. So after reading this I hope that the company that own it can work some magic and also hope nobody else has to suffer the same as we did until things are changed at The Monachty Hotel , Aberaeron.

Room Tip: Dont bother try the Castle Hotel instead.......................!

Eaten at this location on a number of occasions in past few years. On each visit my family and or friends along with myself have always enjoyed the fare provided. Nice location to get reasonably priced pub grub whilst visiting Aberaeron. Will return.

Visited for 2 nights in October. Location is excellent, overlooking the harbour with a small free car park next door but with other car parking within easy walking distance.
Staff are friendly and welcoming and the pub itself is pleasant enough for a drink with the locals.
The room was big enough, whilst there is limited wardrobe and drawer space we didn't encounter any of the issues which other reviewers have complained about.
The hotel was quiet and we only had breakfast in the restaurant which was basic but very satisfactory.
For the price paid this was a good choice and I would certainly stay again.

We were disappointed with this place - great location but hotel needs refurbishing. It was generally grubby and tables etc were very sticky. Manageress was pleasant enough but harassed by staff shortages. Room had a good view but towel rails were broken.Evening meal poor - had run out of rice by 8.30 { on a curry night!} Service generally very poor, uncaring staff. Ate elsewhere on the second night. Breakfast not up to much, chef looked as if he was still asleep and hadn`t changed his apron for a fortnight.
Wouldn`t stay again.

This hotel has the potential to be a really nice place. It is in nice surroundings, but it is poorly managed and not very well run.The breakfasts were swimming in cooking oil,the bedrooms were very short on storage space if you were staying for a few nights. There were no chest of drawers or any other drawer space for your clothing, also items went missing from our room, such as the hairdrier a hand towel and a toilet roll.Although the room was well cleaned by a young rastarfarian lad who was very pleasant.Another downside is car parking close to the hotel,as there is no car park at the hotel, there is a small free car park nearby if you are lucky enough to find a space,as it always appears to be full.
