Saw this on the Food Network and the Travel Channel and just had to try the barbecue. My husband and I each got a different entree and shared. Great food!

Have heard about this restaurant for years and finally decided to try it when out of town company came. We chose the patio which looked like it had been through a hard day-lots of tables not clean and generally unkept looking. When we ordered inside, no one was particularly friendly or
helpful as to what to order. We got ribs, sandwiches, onion rings, and an order of beans. Was just amazed as to how the food tasted- the ribs were fatty, the sandwich was the only thing that was good and had plenty of meat, but it needed some sauce. It was totally dry without it. The onion rings were old and soggy and the beans inedible. Would not go back ever!

Three of us were dining at Central for the first time. We had pulled pork, brisket, and balogna. All 3 meats were delicious. Tender & flavorful and the different types of BBQ Sauce were just right. You order at the counter and then find a place to sit. they have a nice patio for outside seating.

On a recent girls weekend trip to Memphis we definitely wanted to try some BBQ, prior to the trip we searched various sites and found this place ranked either 1 or 2 on all of them. We went on a Friday night and the line was out the door. Good Sign right? We waited about 25 mins line moved fast. The people behind us (locals) said this place was good. Good Sign Right? We each ordered something different but in total we got ribs dry rubbed, pork BBQ nachos, smoked wings, brisket, pulled pork and potato salad. Well we were disappointed all of us, with everything except the smoked wings, the BBQ nachos and potato salad. Funny all the appetizers and sides were good. The ribs were dry and hard, pork and brisket were very dry. Good BBQ shouldn't need sauce but we had to use lots of it to make it edible. Maybe it was just us but we expect a nice hickory flavor and tender/ juicy BBQ

Memphis is famous for blues and barbecue, but there are only a handful of truly great BBQ places that stand out in the crowd. THIS PLACE is among the very best! From brisket, to pulled pork to smoked turkey to the all-time favorite: pork ribs - Central BBQ is simply amazing.

The FOOD:
This is MEMPHIS-style - so that means the sandwiches will have cole slaw and BBQ sauce ON THE SANDWICH (not as a side). This is optional, of course, but I highly recommend it! You can opt for a 'plate' instead of a sandwich which gives you more meat, and a Texas toast plus some sides. The BBQ baked beans are a bit spicy - LOVE it! The fries are great, but I also recommend you try their homemade BBQ potato chips - amazing! Oh - and the smoked turkey salad is HUGE.

The SETTING:
This place is on Central street in a part of town that doesn't have many other restaurants or businesses. AND the PARKING is TIGHT! When we were there on a Sunday after church, an off-duty police officer was helping to direct parking traffic in their lot (yes, it's that tight). So plan to arrive early enough to get a decent parking spot, or else you'll have to park somewhere else in the neighborhood and walk back to the restaurant.

The food is worth the stress of the parking lot! Trust me!

The restaurant is small and can feel cramped & crowded (because the locals know this is the place to be for great BBQ!). You order first, as you walk in the door. Then get a number and try to find a seat. There is INDOOR and OUTDOOR seating available. While waiting for your food, grab some of the various BBQ sauces to try out with your meal (there are vinegar-based and tomato-based sauces).

LISTEN carefully for your number to be called by the server, who will bring your food to you. Then, dig in and enjoy some of the best BBQ around.

CONCLUSION:
My family travels to Memphis a few times per year. There are THREE standout BBQ places: Rendezvous (downtown), Corky's BBQ (various locations) and CENTRAL BBQ. But Central BBQ is MY FAVORITE!
