A simple strip of land, a barrier between the flowing mighty Mississippi and downtown Memphis. A perfect place to erect a few stages, setup vendors and portapotties and call it a festival. Even when the place is soaked and filled with mud. The park may take a little time to recover from the 2013 festival. But the dedicated planners, volunteers, musicians and vendors should chalk up another success. If anyone has any pull, the noodle man and the taco truck should become a permanent staple of the BSMF event!

Beale Street Music and Memphis in May BBQ Contest. World Championship BBQ and World Class Music. Each year Memphis honors a different country and the entire month of May is dedicated to it. This year's contest and festival has just started. See you there!!

Our family of four got there right before sun down. Park offers a great scenic view of the Mississippi River. Walking paths and ground are well kept. There are a couple of monuments dedicated to Tom Lee that provides background information on the heroic act he performed and the reason the park is named after him. People are jogging, walking dogs, throwing frisbees or footballs, relaxing on park benches, just enjoying the outdoors.

On the other hand, there were some disconcerting observations we made while there. 1) The river smells 2) noticed that I was one of only a few that were carrying a handbag or purse of any sort, 3) we parked next to a group of men hanging out in the parking lot with t-shirts with the slogan: Cash Box Krew. Those signs put me on alert, but I have to say, the people we encountered on our walk were friendly and polite. One woman let us pet her yorki-poodle and when my 8-yr old daughter left her sunglasses on one of monuments, a little boy brought them back to her.

We enjoyed our walk and it was a pleasant way to spend some downtime, but it's not a place I would recommend being at after dark.

It is a very simple park along the river, but the view is fantastic from there. There are a lot of benches to sit and big free grassy places to have fun, e.g. to run kites as many people did :)
