Upon arriving at the Residence in, everything looked great. The lobby is nice and clean. When we got to the floor of our rooms, I was a little nervous. The walls under the windows in the hallway were falling apart. Walking into our room, everything seemed ok. Things looked clean. The toilet broke and the faucet fell off the sink upon use, but that was fixed when we went out for the day. The floor around our bed felt like it we were going to fall though it. It had holes and soft spots under the carpeting. When we pulled the sofa bed out to use (for the kids) I felt bad making them sleep there. The mattress was gross. I wanted to turn the mattress over, hoping it would be better on the other side, but it was worse. Soiled and dirty mattress! The bedding for the sofa bed was stored in the closet. Upon taking it out, we noticed that the bedding was filthy with stains. I wanted to leave the hotel, but at this point we would not find another hotel this late. We called for clean bedding and it was brought to us. The complementary breakfast was nice. I would absolutely love the hotel if I never pulled out the sofa sleeper.

Girl trip with Best Friend to Memphis. This hotel had everything I love, comfy beds, really excellent staff, clean rooms/bathrooms and a great breakfast! We stayed in a one room + mini kitchen + sofa bed in August. From the minute we got to the residence we were treated as guests, not just customers. The staff were very courteous from the front desk to the greeter to the kitchen staff.

The only negative is that when the sofa bed is open, you can't walk around the room. Be prepared for that.

It's also right next to the trolley depot, a Walgreens and Paula & Raifords Discotech. Can't ask for more.

3 night stay in the Residence Inn was a highlight of a overall poor trip to Memphis.
The suites are well appointed, clean, quiet and spacious. The staff are great Carl, OC and Miss Ellie are first rate.
The breakfast is included and is a good choice of solid choices, nothing too fancy, but exactly what you need, however, you may have to queue behind the entire Memphis Police Dept who clearly know a good breakfast when they see one!!
Location wise, the hotel is ideal for downtown, but here is where the dilemma is....Downtown Memphis is a run down depressing ghost town...
We walked, we took the trolley, we did all downtown Memphis had to offer...and after 6 hours , rented a car, and left pretty quick!!
In summation, great hotel, in a sad, depressing city....

Just returned from Memphis visit. Stayed at the Residence for two evenings. We stayed in a larger studio. It was a large room with plenty of space for two of us. Full kitchen, living room etc. Think of this Residence Inn as a boutique hotel rather than a cookie cutter type hotel. The hotel is in an old building with plenty of character. The decor is art deco. It is not in the image of a chain. The service is outstanding. From the attentive and helpful front desk to the valet parking we received great service. It is clear the employes care about their guests in this hotel.

As many have mentioned the location is perfect. It is on the trolly line. Don't miss a ride on the trolly. What a bargain for a dollar. Beale street, restaurants easy access to express way are all right there.

We stayed on Wed. and Thursday nights. There was a reception with wine beer and tacos on Wed. night. They did not have the reception on Thursday night. Breakfast every morning offered as a serve yourself buffet in a pleasant space. Very nice.

Be sure to visit the roof area. There is a wonderful view of Memphis and a hot tub. We used the hot tub one evening and it was a great experience.

Will stay at the Residence on our next trip to Memphis.

I stayed here with friends in November. We loved it. The hotel is old but I disagree with the reviews that suggest it's run down. Rather, we found it historic and a clever restoration to include many upgrades consistent with the Marriott Residence Inn brand. All of us had the deluxe studios which were very reasonably priced and extremely roomy. The day we arrived due to availability the front desk permitted all of us to check in several hours early. Rooms were clean and very, very quiet. Breakfast and WIFI in lobby were great. Staff were extremely accommodating and courteous. Location was fantastic for walking to all sightseeing venues in downtown Memphis. Only glitch was once when we were getting our car out of parking garage (mandatory valet) we had to wait nearly 30 minutes one day due to a mix-up with keys and tags. Annoying but staff were extremely apologetic. I plan to return to Memphis and will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Request deluxe studio...extremely spacious.
