“Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2011

Stayed here for one night for a quick downtown memphis visit. Overall, I was very impressed with the hotel. It is a historic building with art deco features that has been restored. Very well maintained. Everything was updated and clean. Staff was friendly. Our room had a queen bed with a pull-out sofa and a kitchen area with large fridge, micro, dishwasher, stove, and granite countertops. There is a full complimentary breakfast complete with sausage and eggs. Self-parking is available on the street behind the hotel for $8/day or you can use valet with unlimited access for $16/day. The hotel is walkable to everything attraction-wise. Beal Street and it's attractions is 5 or so blocks, the river boats are 2 blocks, The Peabody is about 3 blocks. There is a roof-top view of the river...probably the best aside from possibly The Madison...that includes a hot tub. There is also a billiard room on the property, but no pool. The price compared to the other hotels in the area was a steal. Why pay $250/night at The Peabody when you can pay half a few blocks away with breakfast included and just walk over and take pictures of the duck march?:) I would stay here again.

This is an elegant older building--deco era? Our room was basically an apartment, complete with a nice little kitchen. I loved it. Extremely clean, very kind/helpful staff. Small but serviceable gym area with a couple of newer treadmills. We were on a corner, on the third floor. This location is a few blocks from Beale--perfect in that it's close enough to walk to the action but not so close that it's noisy---it was actually very quiet. We also walked to Sun Studio (it's maybe a mile, an easy walk but check the weather reports so you don't get stuck in a nasty thunderstorm like we stupid California people did), and the Civil Rights Museum (a must-see--located in the hotel where MLK was assassinated). Close by Rendezvous Ribs and the Peabody (you have to see the ducks). I liked Memphis a lot--great food and music, nice people, very fun.

Room Tip: I loved our corner room at this hotel--I would ask for the same if I came here again.

Great location - An easy walk to Beale St., and all other downtown attractions.
Reasonable price - Compared to all other hotels in the area.
Clean room - All the amenities you could ask for (including a full-service kitchen), plus a unique layout and the most comfortable bed of anyplace I've stayed!
Friendly Service - All hotel staff made an effort to provide great service. Front desk staff were easy to approach and very knowledgable of the area. Plus, the staff know how to cook good BBQ, which they provide to guests on the rooftop (which has a great view of the Mississippi River).

Overall, my stay at this hotel was a wonderful experience. I'd recommend it to anyone staying in Memphis!

A gem of a hotel. An antidote to sterile corporate hotels. From first welcome to leaving, the staff made our family feel most at home. Location excellent for Beale and Main St. Good restaurants nearby, trolley stop just at the top of the road. Rooms are a good size, ours had a kitchenette with massive fridge(well, by UK standards) and a seated area to relax in. So thank you especially to Carl and the team. You made our holiday in Memphis that little bit special.

We did a Fri/Sat trip for my daughter's 28th Birthday and to visit Graceland and other sites. Getting to the hotel was easy...parking to unload was another story. But as we stood talking to the valet attendant a car pulled away and he said we could park there for no charge. We did and I could see my car from our room and it stayed put the entire weekend. The front desk was great, no issues whatsoever checking in. Yes, the elevator was slow but hey, the bldg is a historical one which means OLD. The room was spacious BUT and had the loudest ice maker in the freezer that I have ever heard! Woke me up during the night dropping ice. There was no information for the room service that was advertised on the internet because by the time we were done with Graceland and checked in, we were more than ready for a refreshing snack. The view from the rooftop deck was fantastic. Saw the hot tub but wish they could find a way to put a pool in somewhere because THAT would have been great after a hot day sight-seeing. The trolley does go BY the hotel but the actual stop is down the block which is no big thing. We parked the car and used the trollely/bus the entire time. Breakfast was good, everyone friendly - best stay I've had at a hotel in a LONG time. Would stay here again if coming back to Memphis.

Loved the service, the breakfast and the caring of the staff to make our stay the best. I must say this is the first hotel I have ever stayed at where the staff sang in the lobby in the morning. It made our stay warmer and added cheer to the day. Great job guys, the best people in Memphis working there.
A special thanks to Jerome and Olga for their assistance and next time we will be there for the cookout on the roof.
