“Tourist trap”
Reviewed June 23, 2012

The singing/band was very good. Everything else was terrible. The "real" congregation numbers about 8, everyone else was tourists. Have to go up front to give your offering, told not to be "cheap". Pastor Al was unprepared, read the wrong passage and had no sermon to speak of. If you want a real gospel church experience, go where the locals are.

“Great Southern Gospel”
Reviewed May 14, 2012

Just like you would imagine. We had to leave after 1 1/2 hours as we had to get somewhere. It was nice down home preaching by Al Green. Nice way to go to church on. The road

“Get dressed up on Sunday, get out of your comfort zone, and go try it for yourself.”
Reviewed April 1, 2012

Another reviewer mentioned this already, but I feel it should be mentioned again. This is a real church. Please dress appropriately. The regular attendees will be dressed in their Sunday best and you should be too. For Europeans in particular, it is not polite, nor expected, to take pictures during an actual service. Yes, I have taken many pictures in European cathedrals, but not during an actual service. Do not take pictures. If Al sees your camera, he will call you out personally and ask you not to take pictures.

We attended Al's church and had a very good experience. The environment is welcoming, but slightly intimidating for Northern Episcopalians. It took us nearly an hour to relax. We have 3 children aged 4 to 10 and they were able to sit through 2 hours 45 minutes of sevice. After 1 1/2 hours, I had to bribe them with a chocolate duck from the Peabody, but they did it. After the offertory, about 1/3 of the church (all tourists) leaves. The service was uplifting and very interesting. The choir and band are outstanding. Al's preaching was good, but not great.

We had an experience that we will never forget - trying out a new form of service in a new part of the country and being truly welcomed.

Get out of your comfort zone, get dressed up on a Sunday, and go try it for yourself.

“Al Green Still gives IT”
Reviewed March 31, 2012

Really enjoyed the church service. Rev Al knows who is a visitor and who is a regular. His choir and band are wonderful. Saw 4 baptisms and sang a lot of gospel music. Check his tour calendar to see if he is in town, and expect a full two hours of enlightenment on a Sunday morning!

“Al Green at his finest!”
Reviewed March 19, 2012

Attended a Sunday morning service led by Al Green. Great energy in the church. I haven't been to a church in over 10 years but glad I attended this one.
