Kind of pricey to take us through and the factor is super loud so if you have a large tour group it is kind of hard to hear. Very interesting, and there are hands-on parts that were great.

It was a fun tour. It takes about 30-45 minutes to get through it. Interesting to see the process of the Gibson Guitar. The make the semi-hollow guitar here. They are pretty much all the same from this factory, but the paint jobs are all one-of-a-kind.

Mostly hand-made, especially the finishing touches.

We went on a Sunday, so the Factory was empty. If you have a chance to go on a weekday, I would do that. See the guitars being made and tested.

Price is $10, so not a bad deal.

If you are interested either in guitars or seeing how things are made, this is a must-see in Memphis. The factory is located near Beale Street in downtown Memphis. You are taken onto the shop floor to see how they make Gibson hollow-body and semi-hollow body (think BB King) guitars. You are standing right next to the craftsmen at every step of the production process, and get a great insight into the process and craftsmanship that goes into these guitars. Although Gibson has other production facilities in the US (Nashville and Montana), the guide said this is the only one that offers public tours. The tour took about 45 minutes and was entirely a walking tour on a single level (no stairs).

If you play or are interested in guitars this is a great tour. You get to see the guitar production process from start to finish. We had a good guide. Funny and knowledgeable. Factory is an interesting mix of modern production techniques/production line and artisan construction techniques. Make sure you go when the factory is working as there is not much to see on weekends when the workforce is missing.
