I have stayed at many nice hotels, but never have I been so thoroughly immersed in the kind of 5 star service that was provided by the staff at the Madison. From the moment I arrived, to the time I checked out, the staff was right where I needed them and often times they even correctly anticipated my needs. I am looking forward to staying there again the next time I visit Memphis.

We've stayed at the Madison before and have always enjoyed our stay there. The hotel does not have the grandeur of the Peabody but the staff is excellent, the room more than comfortable and the price with included amenities was excellent. It is further away from Beale Street but the walk is safe and transportation via a trolley is only a half block away. During nice weather, the roof top patio which overlooks the river is a great addition. The only complaint I would have is that the rooms are on the smallish size for a 4 star hotel but that is due to it being an older hotel which is part of the charm.

Dear ClaytonT:
Thank you for your compliments and equally so for your constructive criticism of the Hotel’s lack of grandeur atmosphere and the small size of your room.
Madison's design was never intended to project a grandeur look or feeling, but a chic, boutique European feeling and ambience. For that reason our guests find a very modern and contemporary design inside a 105 year old shell. A completely different look, design and intimate ambience than the grandeur look of other historic hotels. Both designs are beautiful but very different and possibly cater to different tastes.
We appreciate your compliments of our service driven staff. The Madison has four different room types and each is different in size, while all are equal in amenities offered. Different size rooms are naturally at different price points. I highly recommend you provide our staff to show you different room types on your next visit and that way you have choices of room size to choose from at different rate structures.
We appreciate your repeat business and loyalty and look forward to welcoming you back.
Sincerely,

Upon check in, the hotel confirmed that a breakfast, pool, fitness center, and Wifi was all complimentary with our room as it stated in my room agreement. However, just prior to checkout, a bill for all of the amenities listed above was slipped under my door. We were informed by the manager of the hotel that our printed room agreement was not going to be honored by Madison Hotel and that we were being charged for all the complimentary items for each day. When I asked if we could have declined these items at check in, the manager said, "No, the complimentary services are mandatory and come with an additional charge." When I asked for clarification she played a rude and semantic game saying that the hotel reserves the right to charge for "additional services such as: valet parking." When I informed her that my agreement explicitly stated the items that were complimentary leaving no room for interpretation, she told me the agreement was incorrect and agreed to take off one-third of my additional charges. This was a petty compensation from a 4.5 star hotel that engages in shady practices like charging for complimentary items after telling you they are all included when you check in.

Thank you for taking the time and providing us with your feedback. We are disappointed to hear that your source of disappointment with the Madison is the service charge.
I trust you will find it very customary for luxury hotels to charge separately for services such as local and 800 calls, WIFI, fitness center, business center and any food and beverage purchase. We have opted to provide all these amenities plus an All American breakfast, valued at almost $80 for a small service fee as you pointed out. This service fee is communicated to all our guests through our website, other reservation centers, our reservation confirmations and again upon arrival with guests acknowledgment of the charge on the registration card. We regret that despite all these communications you still disputed your charges at the departure and referred to the practice as “shady”.
We thank you for your business and hope that you will choose The Madison again if your travels bring you to Memphis.
Sincerely,

The madison is a very smart hotel in a good location. Our room was a good size with a comfortable bed with all the normal essentials provided, although there was no fridge or coffee maker. When we arrived we were told that there was a $10 per day supplement that included use of the business centre, access to the roof garden and breakfast. This was not an optional charge, so I don't understand why they don't just add it to the room rate - after all, this hotel is not exactly cheap, so another $10 is not going to make much of a difference. Anyway, breakfast was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful, so I would recommend it.

A friend and I stayed here for three nights. It was a great experience. We went to the attached bar/restaurant Grill 83, the service was excellent and the food was great. The bartender is nice as well as the waiters. We felt appreciated and the staff in the whole building always, ALWAYS greets you with a smile, wave and or asking "how is the weather", and or the day. The staff makes you feel welcomed and are always happy to assist you. It was our first time in the hotel and in Memphis. We will be back in the summer and will be happy to stay at the Madison.

My first trip to Memphis and I'll definitely be back. I've stayed in many "Four-Star" hotels, but truly enjoyed the four-star treatment this weekend. Close to Beale Streat but not in the middle of everything. A wonderful roofview top terrace loverlooking the Mississippi River. Valet, front desk, bar/restaurant ... the personnel and amenities made this a trip to remember and hopefully to repeat in the near future.
