My best friend and I had never been on a road trip together. We decided to do something within driving distance from home. She had her mind made up to stay at another hotel that was not as close to downtown. In some ways, I wish we would have. The only reason I was glad she changed it, it was close to Beale Street! The pictures online are NOTHING like the rooms. The pictures show green bushes in front and there are flowers there now so this tells me that the pics are when the hotel was much newer and nicer. She noticed there were four lounge chairs in the pictures online so she called and asked if there were more LOUNGE chairs and they said yes. Well, that was a lie because there are FOUR and one was broken. She called back after making the reservation to ask for a refrigerator and microwave and they told her she could do that at check in; we arrived to check in and she asked for the fridge and microwave or if our room had it and the girl said I will have to see if we have one. She never gave us an answer as to whether she did or not. We got to our room to find the carpet ancient and looked like it was shredding and had been stretched a million times.very dark blue and nasty. The beds were not as they were described or looked in the online pics but not too bad in the way of comfort. We noticed rooms with the doors open when being cleaned and they were a lot nicer than ours. They did not have a lot of people staying there so why they chose to give us the crappiest room, I will never know. The cleaning people are very noisy in the hallway talking loud amongst themselves and take a long time to complete the rooms on the floor. Most cleaning people I have seen are quiet, clean the rooms and figure they can go home when they are finished. These people must get paid by the hour because they are so busy talking, they are there until four in the afternoon. We did a hear TV up full blast early one morning and people at the pool at times. The filters in the pool were not on and my friend cleaned it herself. There was hair and crap in the pool and no one ever came out to clean the actual pool itself. There was a guy coming around sweeping and checking the pool deck but not the pool. We never saw anyone put chemicals in and it didn't smell like they had any chlorine in it.
The pluses are the hotel is close to Beale, some of the staff are very friendly, the price is great, there is a parking attendant but two nights out of three, the guy was literally asleep in the booth! That would have made a great pic-Kodak moment.lol
If you don't mind an old hotel and you are just looking for an economical way to go to Memphis, this would be fine. The breakfast they talk about is bagels and danishes with juice according to what we were told by the front desk. There is NO cereal. We asked. Also, there is an iron and ironing board in the room. If you want a hair dryer, you have to ask at the front desk and they do have them.
