we arrived very early to the hotel. normally if this happens we're able to get a room still.
that was not the case here! nothing was ready...... the lobby was basic nothing stand out.
the employees were very nice! and went all out to hurry and get us in a room. i liked that.
judging by way the lobby wasn't impressive i prepared myself for the same in the room.
very surprised! a really nice room. clean, great view, and just what i needed. the breakfast is not all that but other than that we had a great time........ i will return

Room tip: ask for front view and high floor

This hotel is in a fantastic location but has few other good features. Out of four lifts only one was operating which meant exceedingly long waits. We checked in at the same time as what seemed like hundreds of teenage college students on some kind of fraternity weekend, many were on our floor and they proceeded to spend two days and nights running around hollering at the top of their voices and slamming doors. The rooms are adequate but the aircon system is weak and far too noisy. This meant two nights with very little sleep for us which was a real downer in an otherwise great visit to Memphis.

The breakfast at the restaurant in the lobby is cheap and good and the waiters are nice.

Wouldn't recommend, Im sure there are better value hotels in Memphis in this price range.

I apologize that your stay with the Holiday Inn Select Downtown fell below your expectations. I am unaware of the "group" of college students you refer to in your review since the hotel has strict policies in place for all of our groups. Any group being that disruptive would have been asked to leave the hotel. Were you able to report the air condition situation to our Manager on Duty. They would have promptly taken care of the unit noise for you to ensure you a good night sleep. Again, I apologize that you had such an unfavorable stay. We do hope that you will reconsider our hotel for your next trip to Memphis. Best Regards,

Overall I would say it was a very good stay and we would recommend this hotel.

Staff were very nice and accomodating.

Arrived on a Saturday afternoon and decided to go out for the evening. Beale street was very festive, but no really our crowd. When we returned to the hotel, we noticed earplugs by the bed. We thought "earplugs, Why. we are on the 12th floor" Well we soon found that the exterior walls were not insulating noise at all. 12th floor and sounded like Mardis Gras was right out our window.

The next disappointment was the shower had quite a bit of mildew inside the showering area.

Elevators were old and slow and numbers inside do not light up so you ar never quite sure of what floor you are on until the door opens and you look around the corner

Lastly, no coffee or tea in the rooms.

Room tip: The higher the better to get away from party noise on the streets

Thank you for your review of our hotel. We apologize that you had a few blunders during your stay. Were you able to report to the Manager on Duty that there were issues with your bathroom? We would have taken care of the situation immediately had we been made aware. The earplugs located in the rooms are for those people who are lighter sleepers than others. Unfortunately, the street noise level in any downtown hotel is elevated. We do hope that if your travels find you in Memphis again that you would give our hotel another try. Best Regards,

Spent two nights here while touring the southern states and were very impressed. Arrived late afternoon on a Saturday and were suprised how busy the streets were. Turned out that the Memphis Redbirds were playing an evening game and the stadium was on the corner of the next block. After checking into the hotel nipped down to the stadium and booked tickets for the evening game. Back to the hotel for the kids to try out the pool. They were both impressed, nicely sized pool and lovely and warm as well. The room was reasonably sized, clean and tidy. Plenty of car parking available but there was a $12pn charge. Apart from the baseball the hotel is ideally situated for most of the main attractions in Memphis. It's within easy walking distance of Beale Street, the Riverside and the Civil Rights Museum, and a short drive to Sun Studios and the Zoo. I would definitely recomend this hotel to anyone visiting Memphis and if you're here when the Redbirds are playing make sure you go. It was an extremely entertaining family friendly evening with an impressive fireworks display to finish. The only negative point was the number of boy racers roaring up the street on the Saturday night. Luckily though the hotel provide ear plugs in the room. Overall a good value, city centre hotel at which I would definitely stay again. Oh and by the way the staff were all very helpful to.

Checked in on a Wednesday and was told that they had a "managers evening" on Wednesdays from 5 - 7 pm. I was thinking light snacks and a cash bar... They had great hor -dourves - and free drinks. Wine, beer or cocktails. What a surprise. The front desk staff was great, as were the cooks for the evening reception.
The only downer was the Breakfast room staff was not. Not good... not present and not tipped. Took over an hour to get eggs and juice. I would go back to the hotel - just not stick around for breakfast.

Room tip: Ask for a room in the front so you can see Beal Street.
