Restaurant Iris is in a charming old house on a residential street. As far as we could tell, the only parking is on the street. There were already cars lining both sides of the street. (I am sure the neighbors must hate that.) So, we had to park quite a ways down and walk to the restaurant. That was not ideal, but not really a problem either.

We arrived at exactly our reservation time and were told it would be a few minutes. We were taken to a comfortable waiting area and offered something to drink. About 15 or 20 minutes later, we were seated. Tables are in various rooms throughout the house. (I believe our server mentioned that there are only 13 tables in the restaurant.) It has the character you would expect of an old house - creaky wooden floors, pocket doors, large molding, etc. The only thing that surprised me a bit was that the brown ceiling in the room where we were seated had two large patched areas of white. It seems to me that a fine dining restaurant would see that such things were fully repaired before customers are brought in. Again, not ideal, but not really a problem.

Now, to the more important things..food and service. Our server was wonderful. She was very friendly and knowledgeable and contributed greatly to the good experience we had. They do little things to make people feel special who are there for a special occasion such a flower and ribbons on the table, a message written in chocolate on your dessert plate and a personalized letter inside the menu cover which they give to you at the end of your meal with a ribbon tied around it.

The food was truly excellent - no complaints at all. I especially loved the brussel sprouts appetizer. I have never had brussel sprouts prepared that way. Wow! Even if you are not normally a fan, you really should try them here. Amazing! The knuckle sandwich was also excellent as was everything we had. The chef came by to ask how everything was - nice touch.

We greatly enjoyed our dinner at Restaurant Iris and highly recommend it.

We chose Restaurant Iris on our trip to Memphis based on the online reviews we read. As others have stated, it's easy to see why this place gets rave reviews. The brussel sprout appetizer was great and could have almost been a meal. Our two entrees were the “surf and turf” of new york strip stuffed with fried oysters & blue cheese and the scallop dish. Both were excellent. Our waitress was very good and knew the menu inside and out. Chef English stopped by the table and asked about our experience which we thought was a nice touch. The French press coffee with dessert was a good add that you just don't see all that often anymore. If we make it back to Memphis again this will be a sure stop for us.

Easy to see why Iris is top rated. Simply fabulous dining experience. We took a group of eight and everyone reported a great experience!

Look carefully to find location; signage subtle.
