Courtyard Memphis Downtown
Ranked #33 of 139 Hotels in Memphis
Reviewed June 30, 2012

Marriott has really upped its game with this Courtyard. It's considerably nicer than most of the standard Marriotts that we have stayed at. The lobby and the rooms have very luxe finishes and pleasing decorative touches. The whole thing was so stylish and it was very clean and quiet. The fitness center was fully equipped--more than average Courtyards. My only suggestion to management would be to add a yoga mat and ball--there is plently of room for it. The hotel is just a few blocks' walk to Beale Street with a number of restaurant choices along the way. If staying in downtown Memphis, do not hesitate to choose this Courtyard.

Went to Memphis for a weekend getaway. I had walked by this hotel several times before and decided to give it a try. Upon check-in I was given an upgrade to a balcony room on the 6th floor. The location was great for people watching. The location is great.. within walking distance to many of the typical attractions but right on the trolley line if you need to travel further. Staff was very curteous. If you do get one of the balcony rooms be sure to bring some binder clips as the door mechanism on the balcony door interferees with the cutrains ability to completely block the rising sun.

It was a beautiful hotel and very modern. The room was nicely appointed. The beds weren't fabulous but comfortable enough. It is pretty far from Beale and doesn't provide shuttle service so that was a bummer. Oh, there was no fridge in the room for some reason, so we had to have one sent up. They forgot about it and we had to call again later on. The A/C said 60 degrees but it was not very cool. Plus, we had some extra charges on the bill (that were removed) but it was still a hassle. Awesome shower though! For the money, could have stayed closer to Beale so I am less likely to return.

Room Tip: Definitely get a balcony! Its the only thing that makes this hotel worth it.

This hotel would have gotten 4 dots on the rating if it weren't for one thing, I will explain at the end.
First and foremost the hotel is only a few years old. So that means it has the new Courtyard design elements in it which I love. Very modern and has a higher end feel throughout the property. We had a room with a balcony over Jefferson St. with great views of the river, bridge and the trolley going by. Speaking of the trolley, there is a stop across the street from the hotel which will get you to Beale St in minutes. And if you are out too late for the trolley, cab fare is only $7.00 from the Beale St cab stand.
The staff was friendly and the food at the Bistro downstairs was pretty good.
The one problem I had was that after the weekend in the hotel I had some small bites on my arm. I didn't confirm this with a doctor, but they seemed awfully like bedbug bites. I am hesitant to say the hotel has bedbugs for sure, if others notice it and report it, there could be something there.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room. Its great to sit out there and people watch.

I am sorry to hear that a good stay with us also had a problem with bug bites. I assure you that we do not have bed bugs. We have had the room inspected and have found no signs of bed bugs in the room. Thank you for bringing this to our attention so we could make a close inspection to insure there was not a bug problem in the room.

We arrived after a long day on motorcycles. We were grubby, hot and ready to be done for the day. The staff helped situate the bikes on the courtyard area between the hotels and assured us they would be well watched. There were a number of other motorcycles already parked in the same area and it was very secure. We were given a room with a balcony and walk-in shower - it was spacious and very comfortable. Everything was very clean, well decorated and inviting. After enjoying the sights and tastes of Memphis we stopped back at the hotel bar and bought a bottle of wine to bring back to the room. Enjoyed the wine on the balcony while watching the trolly cars and horse carriages go by. Highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Not sure if all rooms have a balcony, but ask for one if you can - very nice for evening wine and mo...

Located on the site of the first Piggly Wiggly! My family of 4 stayed in one of the suites in the front corner of the building. The balcony was perfect for people watching! There was an interesting group of locals that I kept tabs on during our stay. :-) There are a couple of neighborhood grocery type stores across the street. The trolley stop right outside is wonderful. Perfect for family trips as you aren't right in the middle of the bar scene.
The suite was very spacious and considering the location, pretty reasonably priced. It was "clean" but the carpet had several stains (looked like mascara maybe) in front of the vanity and dirt was caked in the corners of a couple of windows. No health hazards, just worth pointing out.
Staff members were helpful and pleasant. We ate breakfast one day kind of pricey, but convenient.
If I were to return to the area I would certainly stay here.

Room Tip: Front corner rooms with balcony are great!
