Owner description: The Metal Museum in Memphis, Tennessee is the only Museum of its kind in the United Sates. The Museum grounds consist of 3 and a half acres of land directly over looking the Mississippi River just south of downtown Memphis. On the grounds you will find a sculpture garden, a fully functioning blacksmith shop and foundry, a library holding our permanent collection, and our main Museum which houses rotating exhibitions of emerging and established metalsmiths worldwide. The Metal Museum is the only institution in the United States devoted exclusively to the advancement of the art and craft of fine metal work. This is achieved through exhibitions, collections, conservation, restoration and consulting services, classes, internship and apprenticeship opportunities, and artist residencies. The value of the Metal Museum extends well beyond its exhibitions and facilities recognizing and promoting the careers of metalsmiths.

“Hidden Little Jewel”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

We took relatives here, based on their research. Although we've lived in Memphis 10 years, we had never heard of the Museum. What a pleasant surprise. The Museum is located on a shaded bluff overlooking the Mississippi. Metal Sculptures adorn the grounds, and a gazebo overlooks the mighty Mississippi. Artisans can be watched creating and all are very friendly and accessible. It was such a hidden jewel and I highly recommend it for a hot day, as it's shaded and much cooler than just about anything else to do in the area on a hot day.

“Nice, quick visit”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

It was a little difficult to locate. If you like metal yard art, blacksmithing, jewelry, and the like, you will enjoy it. Otherwise, it's a nice, quick visit if you need something to occupy a couple of hours.

“A nice demonstration of iron working skills”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

The museum and galleries here are on the smaller size but there were some neat displays and example of iron work. I love wrought iron accents on buildings so looked forward to visiting the museum. By far the best part was watching one of their artisans demonstrate iron working skills. If you like art and you like iron art in particular this is a nice way to spend an hour.

“Interesting & Unique”
Reviewed September 13, 2013 via mobile

Although, this was not what we expected, we did enjoy it. Small upstairs & downstairs museum with interesting metal artworks. Gift shop with incredible unique handmade items. Gorgeous garden & views of river. Beautiful yard art, although we thought there would be more garden art. Interesting blacksmith shop, but little work going on. We were happy we went & was very relaxing.
