“Beautiful gardens and art!”
Reviewed July 12, 2012

I toured the gardens first. I was given a very helpful map with a description of the various garden areas. The installation of a very large raised platform on the main lawn was a bit of a distraction but didn't prevent me from seeing everything outside. Otherwise the gardens weren't crowded and I took lots of photos without having to have other visitors in them.

I also visited the art museum. There are some wonderful impressionists works. There was a special display of some more modern works and another of some local Latin artists.

I enjoyed my visit here very much. It is an easy drive from downtown.

Memphis seems to have more large trees throughout the city than anywhere I've been. We enjoyed just driving around in the Park Ave, Central Ave and Poplar Ave areas as well as along the river and Mud Island.

Reviewed July 10, 2012

Wonderful Impressionest collection. The original Dixon home is part of the gallery. Grounds are 'English formal garden". Interesting cutting garden, shady woodland garden, very nice collectiob of plants. Great native plant sale in April. Free noon-time lectures on Wednesdays.

“Beautiful Haven in Memphis!”
Reviewed July 5, 2012

Drive into the Dixon and forget you are in a city. The building and galleries are beautiful and the gardens wonderful. I particularly loved the traveling Lee Littlefield exhibit! Their Gift Shop is fantastic and on par with any Museum Shop in the country.

“Great Memphis Art Museum!”
Reviewed July 3, 2012

The Dixon brings special collections to town, my absolute favorite being a prized Forain collection. Such a well done job Dixon!! Their gardens are worth a visit any time of year and they host multiple events from summer concerts to hip fashion shows, young at art events (like art on tap, and bonfire stuff). Plus plenty of family / kiddo things to do. Every Saturday from 10-12 is free admission so check them out!
