I toured the gardens first. I was given a very helpful map with a description of the various garden areas. The installation of a very large raised platform on the main lawn was a bit of a distraction but didn't prevent me from seeing everything outside. Otherwise the gardens weren't crowded and I took lots of photos without having to have other visitors in them.
I also visited the art museum. There are some wonderful impressionists works. There was a special display of some more modern works and another of some local Latin artists.
I enjoyed my visit here very much. It is an easy drive from downtown.
Memphis seems to have more large trees throughout the city than anywhere I've been. We enjoyed just driving around in the Park Ave, Central Ave and Poplar Ave areas as well as along the river and Mud Island.
