Now we are located at 1005 Tillman st. in the United Way building. Cafe Laroux by DeJavu is a Buffet Styled Restaurant serving Breakfast and Lunch. I did go back to this great little place for the second time and found the seafood gumbo to be excellent, shared again with folks I didn't know who became great meal companions. This comment however is about the soft opening of Dejavu #2 near Monroe and Main. The frontage is a welcome addition to the corridor in that area with a very colorful sign which seems to celebrate the New Orleans cuisine inside. Menu food was served in a buffet allowed you to sample Gator Bites, Beef Tenderloin and other items. I am now a major fan of those reptilian chunks which were slightly crispy with a golden meal crust and tender white meat on the inside, similar to the best delicate Catfish ever prepared, but in bigger chunks than you could get from the average pond grown fish. Chef Gary said there will be appropriate entertainment, N.O. style on a regular basis, which will compliment the top rated restaurants clustered around Monroe and Main. Great new Downtown venue!

If you eat only one meal in Memphis, eat here! This small place puts out some awesome food. Frankly the outside looks shakey and you might wonder if you should go in, set that concern aside and go on in. The food is outstanding and the staff is warm, happy and welcoming. It is very small on the inside, so if a table is not open when you get there, they may ask you if you want to share a table with someone else. Go ahead and do it, every one is real friendly and it adds to the whole experience.

But be warned, they are a lunch only place, not open for dinner.

No question, I wil go back.

As a vegetarian I get excited when a restaurant has more than one vegetarian dish on the menu. Deja Vu had a great selection. Fresh ingredients and home style cooking. Would go out of my way to eat here again if I return to Memphis (though, let's face it, there aren't that many vego options in town anyway, so I would probably have to out of necessity). We did enjoy the food, the laid back vibe and the staff were friendly. Shame its only open for lunch.

We had read on trip advisor that this was the number 1 choice to eat when you visit Memphis. We had planned to have supper there on a Saturday night, then realized it was mostly lunch, so we changed our plans and went for lunch. What a great decision! The staff welcomes you when you come in and makes you feel right at home. Lots of selections on the menu and all looked delicious. The food was outstanding! Makes me wish I lived in Memphis! If you ever go to Memphis, try this restaurant. Don't be fooled by the exterior, it is like eating in you Mom's kitchen!!
