“Best place in Memphis!”
Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

I can see why this little hole in the wall restaurant is rated #1 in Memphis. The customer service was out of this world as the waitress was the best we had all weekend and the owner/chef worked his way around the room to chat with every customer. As for the food, words cannot express. My wife had the gumbo and I had the blackened Tilapia. YUMMY!! However the highlight for me were the plantains. The best I've EVER had!! I can still taste them. Great food, great customer service, great experience!!!

“Nothing fancy but great Cajun food”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

Tried Deja Vu last night and discovered a jewel in the rough. If you like Cajun food or have never tried it this is the place to go. My date had never had Cajun and absolutely loved it trying the Cajun Combo of alligator stew, shrimp creole, etoufee, and gumbo. Don't let the location of this small restaurant deter you from going into this gastronomic delight as you won't regret it. Chef Gary and his friendly staff welcomes all as they enter the door and offer advice if needed about the food. Will have a new location open in the historic South Main district of Memphis in August which will surely be a huge success. My new favorite place in Memphis.

“Good food & friendly staff”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

Easy to find with GPS or Google Maps, enough space to park just in front. We are not from Memphis so we don't really pay attention to neighborhoods. This place is tiny: 30 seats max. Closes at 7pm.

We like New Orleans food and we have a vegetarian in our family so that felt like the right choice. She loved all her sides: the okra was not slimy, the spinach was excellent and the plantain crispy. We tried the gator stew, blackened fish and chicken penne - all very good.
The prices were reasonable and the staff super friendly with the chef going from table to table.

The reason why I put 4 instead of 5 stars is because when we ordered the blackened fish (less than $8) the waitress asked if we wanted to try it with some crayfish on top - sure why not - but not at double the planned price! In such case you tell the person in advance so that they don't have a surprise when receiving the bill. It's only fair practice.

“Hooked after the first bite”
Reviewed July 6, 2013 via mobile

Oh my! That was the phrase we uttered as we were driving there for the first time. It was also the phrase we said when we tried the food. This place is a gem.
