“A Happy find in a time of stress”

My wife and I were returning home to the St Louis area in our motor home when we lost our alternator. We had an appointment at an engine repair facility but needed a close RV park. We found the Graceland park's ad in Woodalls guide to RV parks and decided to try it. It is only a couple of miles from the Cummins Mid-South facility. We found a well run facility with very friendly people that offered the guidance we needed to find our way in an unfamiliar area of town. When the repairs took longer than planned, we were quick to ask for a second night. To anyone interested in Elvis, it is an excellent location from which to tour the local attractions. To people like ourselves that are caught by circumstances, it offers a calming stay to ease the panic of troubles.

Perfect location for Graceland and 10-minute driving to all major Memphis locations. The park is fenced in and guarded 24/7. Yes, there's rough neighborhood throughout Memphis, but the park is 100% safe. This is not a pastoral setting, it is very urban, with Fedex flying overhead constantly, trains in the distance and the occasional out-of-control teenagers on Elvis Presley Blvd. So if you're in a soft-sider, this isn't your location.

My family loved the pick cadillac rides to Marlowe's excellent ribs restaurant and walked for two days around Graceland and all the local souvenir shops. Tunica is a mere 25 minutes away and Beal St. only 10 minutes.

We enjoyed the free bus rides from Graceland to Sun Records and all the other major attractions. Plus, the $1 trolley rides around downtown were terrific!

The only bad part of the RV park itself is that they have the toilets closed from 11:00 to 1:00, which is a bit excessive. Good think the "Heartbreak Hotel" is just through the gate!

Found the staff to be friendly and helpful. You are right across the street from Graceland. You can walk to the visitors center and shops. Felt safe and secure even though the area around is a bit run down. 24/7 security to see who is coming in. Was decorated nice for the holidays. Great place for a nite or two. Older restrooms and shower building but well maintained. You do hear noise from the airplanes so if you are a lite sleeper this may bother you. You are paying for location.

RobiTustin does a fine job reviewing this park.

Allow me to add my two cents. There is no compelling reason to avoid this park, and one great reason to make it your home base – proximity to Graceland. You came to Memphis to visit Graceland, right? Well, this is the location for you – don’t be foolish and stay in West Memphis at some other Kampground; that place is WAY out there. You want to maximize your Graceland experience, not waste time driving.

My wife and I are not morning people, but because we were so close to Graceland, we were in the first, 9:00 AM, Graceland tour of the day. We were done with the mansion by noon and returned after lunch to tour the planes and the movie exhibition. The next day, because of our close proximity to the attraction, we were able to fit in the Private Presley and the Elvis Auto exhibits. Stay at some other campground/RV park and you’re Elvis sightseeing style is going to be severely cramped. (TIP: check the Memphis tourism website for money saving coupons – we took the Graceland Platinum tour for the price of the basic tour).

Does being near Graceland make getting to other Memphis attractions a hassle? Compared to staying in a hotel downtown, I suppose so. But in comparison to other Kampgrounds (nothing against Kampgrounds – we stay in them all the time), it’s not an issue. The freeway entrance is just up the road and it’s wham bam into the core of Memphis.

As for the park, my wife and I stayed in a tent. The tent sights were quite good – large enough, fairly flat, hookups worked fine, away from RV traffic, and affording a decent amount of shade. One big downside, however – I think the bathrooms in Graceland are closer than the bathroom in this park. I exaggerate somewhat, but when you need to go at 4AM, it’s very much an issue. One other negative – no campfires. Probably a city ordinance, but a downer nonetheless.

Other items – they have a nice, large, clean pavilion with elevated grills, a sink for cleaning dishes, and a small microwave. A small, well maintained swimming pool is just off the pavilion – it goes from three to five feet deep and is suitable for laps or just cooling off. I thought the bathroom/shower facilities were only adequate – clean enough but not kept up in a manner that would leave a person impressed with management’s attention to detail. And finally, for the RV crowd, get your awnings ready – there are very few mature trees in the RV section of the park. Bring your own shade.

Overall, a pretty good camping experience, with the proximity to Graceland being this park’s greatest asset. An overhaul of the “facilities”, and this would be a firstclass place.

Heard so much bad things about this place but we all thought it was perfect for what we wanted. We have stayed in alot of rv parks over 3weeks and this was one of the better ones. Great location and facilities but the surrounding area is a little run down and can be a bit intimidating for families to walk at night. Walked for a pizza and went to the Big Mans Gates. We even got free entry for our RV in the Graceland carpark. Worth a Stay or 2.

Perfect location for a day at Graceland. Park is very clean and located just across the street. Big bus access. Cute offer from BBQ resturant--they will pick you up in a Pink Cadillac and bring you the the resturant---ribs were OK, but the fun of it made it worth while!

Location, location, location. It has it. Right next door to Graceland...walking distance. Great sites for RVs with cute street names. Even have a relationship with a great BBQ joint that will pick you up in a pink cadillac. Absolutely fantastic service.
