The Peabody Memphis
Ranked #4 of 138 Hotels in Memphis
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 1, 2012

This is the second time that I have stayed at the Peabody in Memphis. The service by employees is always first rate. While the bathrooms are very small and the rooms are as well, it is typical of older, historic hotels. The rooms and the entire building are very well maintained. The ducks in the lobby fountain are always entertaining and the atmosphere in the lobby in the evenings, is always festive. Parking is kind of a hassle, but the covered walkway between self parking is a great addition. Parking is expensive, and the restaurants are extremely expensive. However, if you want something unique, with great service, and enjoy the historic atmosphere, the Peabody is a great choice. Within walking distance of historic Beale Street and St. Louis Cardinals AAA baseball park.

Room Tip: Upgrade your room to a suite if possible.

Dear Momike55,

We appreciate your continued loyalty to the “South’s Grand Hotel.” As you mentioned The Peabody is a historic downtown property, and because of this our parking garage is adjacent to the hotel. However, we do provide a covered air-conditioned walkway to our entrance. I hope that you visit The Peabody again soon.

Thanks again,

What a gorgeous hotel!

I had booked a standard room but had also joined the iPrefer membership program. On checkin , as an iPrefer member, II was offered a significantky reduced rate to upgrade to the Club level., Our Club level room was on the top floor, we had a corner deluxe room with plenty of room for a lounge suite as well as 2 double beds. Lovely antique reproduction furniture. The bathroom was spacious and had a small tv set. The only negative was that the windows were rather smeary and spoiled the view.

The Club lounge had tea coffee and sodas all day. In the evening there was a supper rpovided in the lounge , crab balls, mini pulled pork burgers , cheeses, dips, biscuits and crudites - all very tasty.

The lounge had Keurig coffee machines and also has a perfectly adequate continental breakfast, lovely pastries, fruits, bagels muffins no toast or hot options.

The lobby is simply gorgeous and it is a pleasure to walk around and admire the historic touches such as the old-time phone boxes - all restored and maintained to a high standard.

If you want to see the March of the Ducks in the evening, make sure you go down well before 5pm to get a good spot. We chose a place on the mezanine level where we could look down on the crowd below

The hotel is close to Beale street, we ate there rather than in the hotel so can't comment on the hotel restaurants. The valet parking is accessed via the parking garage on 2nd street, don't make the mistake of pulling up at the main Union street entrance for valet parking.

Room Tip: Highly recommend the Club level deluxe rooms

The historic Peabody was all we expected it to be. It was beautiful and the service was exceptional. The only downside was the size of the rooms, especially the bathroom. It's an old hotel and you sometimes have to trade space for charm. Food and drinks were excellent and the staff went above and beyond to please. Would stay again!

From the moment we entered the Peabody hotel we knew our stay was going to be one to remember. I have stayed in many hotels around the world and this is a top hotel in my books. The staff went the extra mile in providing excellent service. The cafe in the grand lobby I found to be very inviting, enjoyableable, and relaxing. The room (bed) was incredible. And the ducks were a finishing touch to a great hotel. It was a very enjoyable week. Thank you Peabody.

Worked with the staff at the Peabody. Helpful and efficient. Great room, great food, great facility. Convenient location to restaurants and other sights in the area. Great view from the roof. The Duck Master is a great ambassador for the hotel, great with kids.

My husband and I loved this hotel! We had a spacious room with a queen bed. Although the hotel was built in the 1920's the room was updated and very nice. There were robes in the closet and plenty of clean fluffy towels. We had fun watching the ducks and Doug the Duck Master took us on a wonderful tour of the hotel, making the hotel come alive with his narative. The service was excellent. We had the breakfast buffet in the morning which was lovely. The staff is friendly and the location is great, close to Beale street and not to far from the waterfront. We will stay here again if we return to Memphis.

Room Tip: The queen room that we had was lovely

Dear joyceann24,
Thank you for your kind review, and for staying at The Peabody. Every day at 11:30 a.m., just after the Duck March, our Duckmaster gives a short tour of the “South’s Grand Hotel.” I am pleased that you were able to accompany the Duckmaster on his tour and that enjoyed the rest of your stay with us. I hope that you visit Memphis and The Peabody again soon.

The rooms were somewhat small. But I guess this is the norm for the older hotels. The lobby was nice, but I think the ducks are overated. The location is near everything and the city is easy to get around. The hotel staff was friendly, but beware of the extra charges! I got a good deal on priceline. I sure would not pay full price.
