We decided to walk to Sun Studio from our downtown Memphis hotel. Probably not a good idea in August.(Somewhat rundown/industrial neighborhood on the way). Reaching the air conditioned Sun Studio set the tone for a great time. Initially you see the guitar hanging outside. Inside is a 1950s like soda shop w/bar/stools and booths. I know they sell cokes but not sure if they actually sell old fashion sodas as well. It is also has T-shirts and other souvenirs. Its very cute and sets the 1950s tone.
Our tour guide looked to be in her late 20's and looked anything but the 1950s. She did a tremendous job. She regaled us with history and anecdotes.
The only complaint is there were too many people on the tour. When you go into the first room there are display cases that you can't see what the tour guide is referring to because the small room is too packed. Perhaps 10 less people would make the tour better.
At then the end of the tour you are allowed to take a picture with the mike used thru the decades by all the major stars. Fun and a great photo to share with all your friends who loved Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins etc
