Owner description: Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song. It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers. Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

What a delight to visit Sun Studio and stand in the Studio where Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison and so many others recorded their music! Our guide was terrific and took us back in time.

“Not worth it!!”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

Took the tour. The tour guide requested that questions be asked at the end & I found out why. They give a distorted view of musical history. My mom grew up during the civil rights movement and even the white gentleman standing next to us knew those musical facts weren't entirely accurate. If you want the real story, go to Stax. It's much better and they tell you the truth.

“Good Fun Tour w/ Enthusiastic Guide”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

This is a great tour of this historic studio. The enthusiastic young woman who gave the tour brought the past to life. You can listen to music recorded here, as well as studio conversations between Elvis and others - and actually hold a mic that Elvis sang into. The entire studio is authentic - it is a time-capsule from the 1950's. This is a must tour while in Memphis!

“Unmissable Memphis tour”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

This is the second time I have visited Sun studios and was still fascinated with the tour. The guide was really knowledgable and fun, his anecdotes made it all the more interesting. The other 6 in my group were new to memphis and thought Sun Studios was the second best tour they had (behind Gracelands)

“Where it all happened”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

This was our first stop in Memphis on an all Elvis visit. We were blown away how important this small place was on the world's music scene. The tour guide was very good but I would have like to linger over the displays in the museum a little longer.Of course we got to stand on the spot Elvis did! Only unfortunate thing was we had hoped to catch the shuttle bus to Graceland but both were out of order so it was a $30 taxi fare instead. Sun studio and Graceland is a whole day event but was fantastic
