Owner description: Sun Studio - The place where an 18 year old Elvis Presley recorded his first song. It’s well-known in the music industry as "The Birthplace of Rock 'N' Roll" and the most famous recording studio in the world. Opened by rock pioneer Sam Phillips in 1950, this national Historic Landmark is where superstar musicians like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and countless others started their recording careers. Today, Sun Studio still serves as a recording studio in the evenings while hosting public tours during the daytime hours.

“Very worthwhile and entertaining.”

Alot smaller than I thought the property would be and stands on a corner looking rather tattered and torn. However, the memorabilia inside this institution holds so much more and you can feel the essence of so many of those wonderful and talented performers that have now departed from us. Most people go there to see how Elvis got his start in the music industry as we did. We were not disappointed and you can buy some great merchandise from the store before you leave. A must do if you are in Memphis and a music lover!

“Very nice quaint tour”
Reviewed June 21, 2012

Our tour guide was so energetic and passionate about the events that took place here at Sun Studios, it really made the tour that much more interesting. This is a small place but when you hear who and what has taken place in this location, it's amazing. For any music buff, this is a must see.

“Reminiscing - a look back at the 50s”
Reviewed June 20, 2012 via mobile

Enjoyed the tour and seeing the old photos of Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis. I went to see Jerry in concert when I was a teenager. It was about two weeks before they announced he had wed his 13 year old cousin. My adoration slipped after that news. Saw Graceland a few months ago and would recommend that tourists see both Graceland and Sun Studio. This tour is especially fun for seniors and baby boomers.

“Great bit of History”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

As part of the Music Back Beat Tour with Gary, we went to the Studios and was shown around by a lovely young lady who was very passionate about her history of the music scene, which made it more enjoyable being from England.
Stood on the spot where Elvis recorded his songs and used his mike and also where they took the picture for The Million Dollar Quartet!
As part of the tour Gary plays songs on the coach you sing along to all the hits, shows you all around Memphis and talks about the history etc and later on Gary performs with his buddies at The Blue's Cafe on Beale Street.
A must for anyone travelling to Memphis

“Spirits of giants still wander there”

Memphis... Music city! Sun Studio is an must see for every music lover. Not only do you get an insight on the history of the label, studio and it's legends.
Being able to stand in the studio where legends recorded legendary music is unique. And a must do.
Where I would say Graceland is a tourist trap for everyone else than Elvis fans, Sun is much more essential to visit for the general public.
