Going into Itta Bena is like entering an old speakeasy. It’s upstairs above BB King’s Nightclub in Beale Street. I was directed to climb the stairs, go through the exit door and climb more stairs and push on the door opposite. It was worth the climb. I was in a sea of tranquillity and class. The bar is good; the food is excellent. I had crab with avocado; a simple but lovely combination, followed by a nice steak with parmesan fries and some creamed spinach. Finished with a warm peach and rhubarb cobbler with icecream. The food is not particularly innovative, but it is well done and well presented. Good selection of wines by the glass, and the place is sound proofed so nothing filters up from the noisy club below.
