“Interesting but chilly”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

Well worth the visit but take a sweater the air con is too efficient. Good audio tour, lots of detail and extra music options throughout.

“Close to Beale Street fun”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Your admission includes earphone pack to narrate your tour of the museum and a ten minute orientation video. There's not a lot going on during the day on Beale street in August, so walking 100 ft from the famous street is a nice diversion. I knew about the blues and some of the beginnings of rock started at or near Memphis, but I had no idea that soul was started there as well. Most of the exhibits are instruments and costumes, but my favorite was all the detailed history of the begginings of these genres. There are lots of musical samples from some of the first recordings onward. It takes anywhere to 30 mins to 3 hours to tour the museum and its all on one floor with a compact layout for those with mobility issues.

“A must-visit in Memphis”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

We made a last minute decision to pop into this museum before dinner on Beale Street and are so glad we did. It's the best attraction we visited in Memphis. The museum is audio guided with the option to listen to lots of music on your headset and explore at your own leisure. Endless amounts of exhibits and information to take in, but the real value is that you get a sense of the story of music in Memphis and of civil rights at the same time. We were moved by the opening film which really set the mood for exploring the museum. Fantastic value at just $12 - don't miss it!

“OK but not our favourite Memphis Tour”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

We found the tour to be enjoyable and informative but would rate behind Graceland, Sun Studio and Civil Rights museum in terms of interesting things to do in Memphis. Something to do if you have the time but not a must see in our opinion.
