The Orpheum is a great place to see a play or show. It has history and ambience. If you get a chance to see a show at the Orpheum try it. I have seen several including Rock f Ages and actually saw Styx in concert there in 2012.

Originally built in 1928, and undergoing a $5 million renovation in 1984, the opulent theatre now presents about 10 Broadway shows a year, numerous musical events, and the enjoyable summer movie series in the summer. The beautiful brocade draperies, the gilded moldings, and the amazing chandeliers hearken back to an earlier time.

We loved The Million Dollar Quartet a few months back and just last month we had a great time taking part in the summer movie series on a Thursday night. Loved that when we walked in we heard the organ music, then saw the beautiful Wurlitzer pipe organ being played, descending back into the stage area prior to the start of the movie. And yep, we even had popcorn, candy, and (our choice of) soft drinks or some adult beverages to enjoy during the movie! A terrific entertainment venue.

Easy parking, plenty of places to eat nearby, Beale Street...a lot to do in the area before or after an event. A visit to the Orpheum is always something to look forward to and I've never been disappointed.

The Orpheum Theatre is a landmark in Memphis. The architecture is second to none. I have seen at least 100 Broadway plays here, numerous music concerts and they even have movie nights in the summer. Old classics like Gone with the Wind, etc etc. The orpheum is also HAUNTED. There is a little girl named Mary, who appears every now and again. ( Its true )

The selection of performances could not have been better this year. Also, the atmosphere of being in an "antique" theatre makes the experience even more enjoyable.

Was there to see Leonard Cohen so what could be bad? I was in the balcony and the seats and leg room were tight. It's an old theatre though so I accept those things.
