We ate here twice in the evening and also stopped for coffee one lunchtime. The menu is quite extensive, but centres on seafood. Everything we ate (mussels, fish and chips, hot and cold salmon salad, chicken curry - ok, so that's not seafood but it was home-made) was delicious and the portions were generous but not overwhelming. Given the remote location, the prices seemed very fair. The coffee was just about ok. The house wine was very good. The staff were mainly very friendly, including the patron, and the view of the loch and surrounding mountains cannot be faulted. Wish this was our local pub!

Visited from Mallaig for the day in July 2013. Fantastic service, food and atmosphere...wishing we could have stayed longer.

I ate in The Old Forge every night for 10 days during my summer holiday in Knoydart. The service couldn't be faulted. The staff were friendly and courteous and efficient.

While the food was reasonable I would make the following slightly nit picky points:

1. Instead of supplying fiddly, cheap little sachets of sauce the management should supply a holder of proper sauces in the correct bottles: ketchup, brown, mustard, mayo, vinegar and hot sauce. A classier touch than the little sachets currently on offer.

2. Hot veg. Nowhere on the menu was hot veg available as a side order. Salad was plentiful but sometimes a patron just wants some seasonal veg to accompany his main meal. Adding a side order of veg would be very welcome.

3. A lack of local produce. While the shell fish was abundant in the pub there was no locally grown beef or lamb/mutton on the menu.

4. Chips. Is it too much to expect home made chips rather than the frozen variety? The food isn't dirt cheap here and for a pub that prides itself on the dining experience frozen chips are a definite no no.

4. A better understanding of Scottish/British cuisine. I think the owner and the chef are from continental Europe and as a result may not quite comprehend the breadth of British and Scottish dishes that could help make the menu special. Smoked haddock pie; tatties and neeps; some haggis; salmon; beef stew; lamb curry. homemade pies; And hot veg and a range of potatoes besides the frozen chips. A lot of the patrons are starving hungry after physical activities like biking, sailing and hiking. These kind of dishes would deliver.

We had heard fantastic reviews about this pub and were slightly disappointed that it had changed hands and didn't find the staff very helpful. Unfortunately I was ill the day we went for dinner, but the fish and chips I ordered were lovely if only I could've eaten them. My partner had the seafood platter which was beautifully served and very fresh. We just felt that the pub lacked the atmosphere we were expecting. Good food but pricey
