“A wilderness treat to remember”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

This is a lifetime experience to remember. Everything about Knoydart Lodge is as good as it gets. Morag and Bob are hosts from heaven. Nothing is too much. Once we arrived at the pier Morag was there to collect us. We were welcomed with coffee and tea. We travelled with two boys and our daughter was given the extra room ("you don't want to share the room with your brothers do you"?). Morag took us to the far end of the peninsula the next day and pointed out a nice walking trail. Being City People, we - of course - managed to get completely lost and called Morag once we had mobile reception. No problem whatsoever and thus ten minutes later she arrived with her 4X4 to whisk the city people back to their gorgeous house. Bob and Morag are very knowledgeable as to whatever is of interest regarding this small but brave community of about 100 souls, who took destiny into their own hands in 1999.
Morag and her daughter Evelyn offer a wide range of breakfast: yoghurt and cereals through to traditional kippers, a full Scottish and the house speciality: their oven baked egg with Parmesan cheese. Check out the website of the Knoydart Foundation for more information and of course there is the Old Forge where music is abundant and the food great. All in all, a feast to remember. Thank you Morag, Thank you Bob.

Had a last minute, spur of the moment, want to go to Inverie and The Old Forge. Lucky to get the last sailing of the Western Isles boat! What a great crew! He was worried we didnt have a booking so he called Morag at the Lodge. When the boat arrived, she was there on the pier to pick us up. Brought us back to her lovely place and made us a cup of tea.the next morning, our "non" plans changed again. Got to go on a fabulous adventure with Bob, aboard his boat. It was like a dream! Thanks Morag and Bob!

I stayed about five nights in a twin room at this B&B in early May 2013. it is a lovely building, lots of timbered floors and ceilings and very modern. It reminds me of mountain places I've stayed in in Germany or Austria. Breakfast is everyone sitting around a long table with several different choices beyond the traditional bacon/eggs etc - all tasted pretty good although no-one while I was there tried the pancakes. Morag and Bob were very helpful and everyone at Knoydart knows everyone else as it's tiny so they can give you local tips if you need them. I can't really find fault with it, but then that probably should be expected since the B&B cost was above average (£45 pppn) and I think it is worth the extra in this case as there is plenty of space in the rooms, a nice view onto the garden/sea, as well as a drying room if you are hiking. I was glad I wasn't staying in a nearby bunkhouse, where friends had cheaper accommodation but several to a room. When you're walking, it's nice to relax at the end in a warm, spacious place (especially if, as on that occasion, it is steadily raining).

Spent 3 nights with the wonderful Bob & Morag and can't wait to return. Their home Knoydart Lodge is beautiful, comfortable and very special indeed. We were contacted in advance to arrange transport over to Knoydart and were met at the pier & driven the short journey back to the house. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The views across the back garden are beautiful. The breakfast menu was without doubt the most interesting and original we have ever come across - scallops for breakfast; what a treat! Everything was cooked to order & was delicious.
We had one evening meal cooked by local chef Penny. It was absolutely wonderful & a pleasure to enjoy top quality "home cooking". Our other 2 evenings were spent at the Old Forge which were equally enjoyable.
Knoydart Lodge is a wonderful place to relax and unwind and we look forward to returning soon.

Had some trouble getting a response from the owners to arrange some final arrival details, but other than, my experience here was excellent. I was picked up at the pier and given a ride to the lodge, which saved me a half mile walk. The owner recommended I stop in at The Old Forge to make a dinner reservation on the drive over, which was thoughtful. I was only there for two nights and my plan was to hike up Ladhar Beinn, and they lent me a map. Also nice.

If you have dinner at The Old Forge, be aware that the walk back to the Lodge can be a near complete darkness. Bring a head lamp or a flashlight.
The rooms were spacious as were the bathrooms, and each room opened onto the back deck which overlooked a large, nice garden. Beautiful common areas.

Highly recommend the dinner. They had Penny, a chef from the other side of the penisula come over to prepare dinner, and it was excellent. Incredibly fresh and tasty. One of my best meal experiences during my two month stay on the island.

We could not have picked a better weekend weather wise to make the trip to knoydart. Upon arriving at the pier the lodge had sent down a taxi to transport our luggage to the lodge. Bob and Morag (owners) and Evelyn are really nice hosts. The lodge is relaxing and comfortable and nicely situated next to the market garden. Good showers and a nice patio to sunbathe on outside too.
