Spent 4 nights at the Blue Peter Hotel. The room was warm and quiet, located above two bars situated on the ground floor. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating having an obvious pride in their business. Breakfast was good and the evening meals were very nice too. The pub was traditional and laid-back, seemingly a focal point for the small local community who were also very friendly. I was made to feel very comfortable and it was a relaxing place to stay. Great open fire. Very reasonably priced. No complaints.

Ian and Ruth are great hosts...very friendly and helpful. Blue Peter is in Kirkcolm, a few miles from Stranraer so this is a convernient place for a 1 night stay before catching the ferry to Belfast. The rooms are very small, but complete with all the necessities and quite clean and neat. I did notice that the bath towels were very thin, but that really wasn't an issue. The price was quite good and Ruth and Ian could not have been more accomodating. When we arrived in the evening, Ruth prepared a wonderful dinner for the 4 of us and the breakfast the next morning was very good. For both meals we were offered several choices and the price was right. The downstairs of the hotel is a pub, but there was no noise problem like we have experienced in other places. If the weather had been better, we could have sat on the patio in back and watched the squirrels!! This is a great little find for the price.

Reviewer: Nash, Cheshire.

We were drawn to this pub by the mention of red squirrels in the garden and were not disappointed as they appeared and performed each morning we were there.

We were also delighted by the warm and friendly welcome we received from Ruth and Ian, who bent over backwards to ensure our stay was comfortable. In addition to the substantial and excellant breakfast included in the price of the room Ruth will, on request, serve a delicious evening meal to guests even on the nights that the pub does not serve food to non residents.

The whole establishment is very clean and well run with plenty of nautical, equestrian and Yorkshire based memorabillia reflecting the life and interests of these two aimiable hosts.

We used the Blue Peter as a base to explore the penisula and visit local businesses and found the advice offered about this most welcome and helpful. We will no doubt need to return to this area on business in future and would not hesitate to return to The Blue Peter.

28th July 2008.

We have just spend a wonderful long weekend in Scotland and stayed at the Blue Peter Hotel. Ian and Ruth the Proprietors, two lovely people who made us very welcome, The food was excellent, (all home made), rooms and bed very comfortable.
It was a brilliant experience to sit in the garden and watch the Red Squirrels run in and out of their box for food and my granddaughter loved every minute, watching them and all the different birds that visited the garden. We would certainly would come back for another visit.

My wife and I were on a short golfing holiday and found the Blue Peter the ideal place to stay. The owners, Ruth and Ian were exceptional. On arrival we were invited into the garden terrace to enjoy a beer and to look at the family of Red Squirrels which live at the bottom of their garden. The hotel has tremendous character with an obvious nautical theme but also filled with all sorts of interesting bric a brac. Ian and Ruth went out of their way to give us information about the local area and golf courses, nothing was to much trouble. The rooms were very clean and the food very good (I recommend the diced Lamb) and the bar has a large selection of beers and spirits. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel

The Blue Peter Hotel/Inn is full of character. Situated in a quiet picturesque village at the edge of a forest bustling with wildlife this would be an ideal place for a long weekend break in a relaxed chilled atmosphere. Also a great place for an overnight stopover before catching the ferry to Ireland or before continuing a tour up to the outer reaches of Scotland.
Ruth and Ian, the proprietors were most friendly and helpful. The hotel bar is very popular with the locals who were a colourful mix of interesting characters. They made our two children and ourselves feel very welcome.
Our family room was small but cosy and very clean. The breakfast was excellent. Each room in the hotel was decorated with a different theme. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning there one day in the not too distant future.
