Lovely building although the view slightly spoiled over looking the old Stenaline terminal. Grand restaurant and cosy bar is a bit compromised by the dated rooms. Clunky banging room doors wake you from your sleep, lack of blinds on bath room windows must give others an eyeful when you shower.

But the worst was the staff! Uninterested, dismissive and do not pay attention when you request something. Not worth £80 B&B

Curling weekends are fantastic value and not to be missed. Dinners are fantastic and I've never been disappointed yet. Breakfast and lunches equally so. I've never seen anyone wear what I would consider to be formal dress and have seen diners in T-shirts. Rooms are comfortable and very warm; too warm if anything. Both bars are good but the curling bar must be one of the best in the country. The whole hotel simply reeks of curling with a curling shop, a collection of ancient curling stones (some on display and some just lying about) and a well maintained rink. We'll be back again in March for more of the same.

The Famous Grouse Curling Weekend was a great success.
The Macmillans and there staff always look after you so well.
The staff at reception are friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy.
The dinning experience was very good.
The ice was beautifully prepared by Gail and her colleagues.
It is a great way to spend a weekend, excellent food, good company, comfy hotel, great curling and the odd drink or two and all for a very reasonable price. We will be back in March (as we were runners up of the weekend and will be returning for the Dalrymple Cup).

I arrived at this hotel early evening as I had an early ferry crossing to Ireland the following morning. My company had paid for DBB, however on arrival I hadn't realised that you had to wear formal dress for dinner and had only arrived casual. I asked if I could eat in the lounge instead and was told no so I ended up with a chinese from the local takeaway. Breakfast didnt start until 7.15am and my boarding time for the ferry was 7.00am so that was a non starter also! I was offered a packed lunch ( uh hum ) or a continental breakfast room service which I would have had to pay extra for. I found the hotel to be very dated, and the bedding inadequate. There was an over sheet, and a pink waffle blanket, then a throw over. Subsequently sleep was not easy in coming. The TV had no picture on all evening, but by this time I'd had enough so didn't complain. There were a lot of elderly residents there also, so maybe this type of hotel appeals to that age group. I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, and shall not be staying there again. Stranraer since the ferry port was moved to Cairnryan is nothing but a run down town now. Very disappointing!

The building itself is wonderful, but as others have stated refurbishment wouldn't go amiss,
The hotel cleaners don't seem to believe in hoovering any closer to the wall than an upright cleaner will reach and as well as the fresh toiletries supplied in the bathroom, there was the added bonus of a bar of soap (complete with hair) which was obviously used by the last occupant. The room was cold and adjusting the radiators did nothing to change this. All in all, I was very disappointed, especially when I had a paid full price and this is hardly a budget hotel.

This hotel is nice though could do with a refurbishment .
You can see the granduer it's been very flash in it's day.

The Seaview rooms are lovely and they do a great few night deal.

The service is second to non , and the food was first class In fact it's brilliant . Great presentation and a vast menu lovely waitresses very efficient and friendly.

Stranraer is a bit of a let down , but travel to Portpatrick it is stunning little place very pretty.

Would recommend this hotel as it's got pool and a ice rink is on
site .

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the staff could not have been more helpful or done anymore to make not only our stay fantastic but also our daughters wedding the best day of her life. Really amazing service and incredibly friendly obliging owners and staff. A special thank you to Mr and Mrs McMillans' grand daughter who was so helpful and had such a warm and welcoming smile.

Room Tip: We were situated in the old wing and it was amazing.
