Delightful location in a quiet road yet still near the centre of Portpatrick and a shortcut takes you to the picturesque harbour front and numerous good restaurants. Lovely bedroom with seaside themed decoration was tastefully done. Great attention to detail. And a sea view.
The owners were attentive and organised but did not intrude. Very good breakfasts again with lots of choices - porridge made the old fashioned way: good scrambled egg and smoked salmon. We loved it.

Perfect stopover if you are catching or returning on the ferries from Stranraer to Belfast or Larne. Only 9 miles from the ferry and a really picturesque and tranquil village. This small hotel is on a hill overlooking the Irish sea. Maggie and fred Findlay are genuinely
welcoming hosts, attentive yet never intrusive. The rooms are spotlessly clean, and the food homemade, inventive and appetising. What they have done with their hotel over ten years seems to have been a labour of love, and it shows We wish them well.
The whole experience helped take the pressure off the thought of coping with the car on the ferry out, and provided a restful night on return before driving back to Yorkshire.

Maggie and Fred have a justifiable reputation that seems to extend through the whole of Portpatrick as excellent hosts. Nothing is too much trouble including early start breakfasts. Due to a member of the family being taken ill we had an increased reliance on Maggie and Fred and they were absolutely fantastic, and at a difficult time they really made life as easy as possible for us. The hotel has a lovely calm feeling and we will definitely be back.

Maggie and Fred Lindlay run a truly hospitable Guest House. They offer a very warm welcome and do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable; nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are very well appointed and very clean. There is a small conservatory which acts as a residents lounge.
Breakfasts have a traditional Scottish flavour with different specialities offered each day!
Rickwood House is one of the best Guest Houses we have stayed at and we think it would be difficult to find better accommodation anywhere else in Portpatrick.

The Rickwood House Hotel is a place to which we keep returning. It is quiet and friendly and skilfully managed by owners Maggie and Fred Findlay. We love the views from the front of Portpatrick harbour and from the side over St George's Channel to Northern Ireland. The rooms are attractively furnished with comforable beds and good facilities.

Meals are excellent with a good choice of breakfast dishes (the porridge is a must!) and delicious home-cooked evening meals. Our special favourite is Wigtownshire lamb slow cooked with pearl barley, a dish which, like much of Maggie's excellent fare, positively melts in the mouth!.
Our favourite destinations for trips out are the gardens particularly that at Logan House and Logan Botanic,. We go bird-watching at Port Logan, The Mull of Galloway and Loch Ryan. Slightly further afield lie the delights of the South Ayrshire coast and Culzean.

Rickwood Hotel in PortPatrick, run by Maggie and Fred Findlay, is everything one would hope to find in an hotel and I would recommend the Rickwood to anyone taking a holiday in the Mull of Galloway which is a beautiful and often overlooked corner of Scotland.
If you like your welcome to be warm, your accommodation to be beautifully appointed and your food to be homemade and delicious then Rickwood is the place to go!
The hotel is in a quiet situation, yet within easy walking distance of the picturesque harbour.
Our room was spacious and warm with comfortable twin beds and an en-suite bathroom. There were coffee and tea making facilities in the room, plus a tin of homemade shortbread in the dining room for guests to enjoy. The TV has freeview channels and a built-in dvd player – there’s a selection of DVD’s available.
Maggie is an excellent cook – she makes the perfect poached egg! We had our evening meal in the hotel every night and enjoyed a wide variety of homemade fare which was of the highest standard and in my opinion is comparable, if not superior, to the best restaurants in Edinburgh.
The Mull of Galloway has lovely gardens (such as those at Logan House and Ardwell), beaches, ancient sites and big skies. On a clear day from the magnificent Mull of Galloway (Scotland’s most southerly point), it is possible to see the coasts of Cumbria, the Isle of Man and Ireland – all whilst keeping your feet on Scottish soil. Quite awe inspiring.
I look forward to my next visit to the Rickwood – a superb hotel which I recommend wholeheartedly.

Had 3 days here earlier this month and would recommend it to anyone looking for B&B or mini guest house. The hospitality was genuine and nothing was too much trouble for Maggie. Breakfast was very good and we had dinner there for 2 nights and the cooking was excellent. Rooms spacious, clean and warm; bed very comfy. If I had to be really picky the only thing I would change is having to choose breakfast the night before, but the idea of a 'special' addition each morning is great - tatie scone was our favourite. We don't often return to places but we will definitely be returning here.
