We have just stayed at Rickwood House for the 5th time. The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable but what puts this b&b in a different class is the quality of the breakfast. Go for the porridge followed by the smoked salmon and scrambled egg option, it really is delicious. Oh, and by the way, Maggie and Fred are the perfect hosts too. Would definitely recommend this b&b as the place to stay in the Portpatrick/Stranraer area.

This is our second stay, we wanted to return before, but they were booked up. Room was lovely and clean - they allowed our small dog in (even though we moved her back to the car, because she disturbed OUR sleep!).
Would recommend having an evening meal if it is on - the menu is put up at breakfast - very reasonable cost for 3 courses of excellent home-cooked food.

Room Tip: Have stayed 2x - both rooms were good, book early?

I liked erything about this hotel. The owners went out of their way to make me feel at home. The rooms were excellent , the food superb . Prior to eating there is a room just off the main dining area where it was possible to socialise with the other guests.
The hotel has a car park within the grounds and this would make a difference to older people loading and unloading luggage
The Hotel overlooks the harbour and out to sea. Fine walks along side the golf course are possible .Also if you are an enthusiast a round of golf can be played.
Portpatrick is at the start or end of the Southern Upland Way, where better to start or end your journey than a stay in the comforts of the Rickwood Hotel.

My parents have stayed at the Rickwood House on a number of occasions and have raved about their stay; I have to say they were so right!
I had a gorgeous room overlooking the sea, it was lovely and clean and very well furnished. The food was lovely both the breakfast and evening meals, home cooked to perfection. I especially enjoyed the Smoked Salmon and scrambled eggs which were a real treat.
On my first morning in Portpatrick I managed to have a really nasty fall on the harbour slipway, I returned to the hotel soaked and bruised, Fred and Maggie could not have been nicer, making sure I was ok and also taking my wet jeans and washing them for me. Made me feel so much better!
The surrounding area is a hidden gem, masses of unspoilt coast and views. Had a lovely time in Whithorn and the Isle of Whithorn following in the steps of St Ninian and also enjoyed a trip up the Ayrshire coast.
Excellent hotel, fantastic hosts, beautiful area! Thanks Maggie and Fred!

just to say that although it is a wee while since we visited Rickwood it is punishing that we are not in a position to return just yet. But we will asap.

When we were there though the welcome from Maggie and Fred was tremendous, the meals wonderful, especially the breakfasts, and the accomodation very confortable. Heard there has been a lot of work done in the house so look forward to enjoying our next trip very much.
Been disappointed once - we left it too late in booking up and 'No vacancies' .
Lesson learned.. G&M
