“Charming and Elegant”

Our stay here was very nice and typical of what we expected for a British country Hotel. The room has large and nicely decorated with a small balcony overlooking the port. We really enjoyed the dining room and a wine by the fireplace. Our dinner was excellent and very good service. We couldn't resist the full breakfast one morning and it was great. Overall it was a very pleasant place to stay.

We recently revisited the Fernhill after a period of 12 years. I am glad to report it has not changed at all, the food is still first class and the location is as good as we remembered.

The views to the village and beyond are amazing, great just to sit in the room and watch the surf breaking on the rocks.

Our favourite part is the restaurant however, we have eaten at some top class places including The Three Chimneys on the Isle of Skye, Martin Wishart in Edinbugh and Gordon Ramsays when he had a place in Glasgow, Im my opinion the Fernhill is a match for all these !

Room Tip: Get a ground floor room with a patio, this means you can sit in bed and look at the view.

Recently visited on Valentines day, for a 3 day break. Did not realise until later, but this was the first opening day after the winter break. Lots of snow and slush getting there, but 2 wonderful sunny days on Sat and Sun..The welcome was fantastic, with a glass of sherry and a free evening drink, just as though we had never been away. The Room was perfect, the superb local menu as usual, Gorgeous view of the harbour, huge waves throwing up spray for 40-50 feet. I do not know how anyone can fault this venue!

Room Tip: Book early and ask for a room on the top floor.

We have just returned from a weekend break at the Fernhill and I can't speak highly enough about it. The views are fantastic, the room was large spacious with two wingback chairs by the fantastic sea view window and still lots of space to move around. The bathroom was lovely clean and bright with lots of space.
We got a complimentary sherry on arrival and the staff were really friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious.
The only negative was a draughty window which was not a problem as the heating was so good.
Our room was in the new part on the same level as reception and had an elevated view over the lovely little village. From the bed I could see the waves crashing onto the rocks. Awesome.

Arrived here on the day they re-opened after a 5 week closure over the winter period. We were offered a sherry as a welcome, and this was a nice touch! Fantastic views directly over the town from the hotel, and our very comfortable bedroom had the same wonderful view. We were only here for one night, had a lovely dinner in their restaurant and a super breakfast the next day.. Staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. We'll be back!

Room Tip: We were in room 35 and it had a fantastic view over the port. I would think that rooms 34 and 36 wou...

The view from the entrance hall over the the Irish sea is marvellous - sitting there with a glass of cherry belongs to the few things you need to enjoy at least once in a lifetime! Our pretty old english style room was very spacy, also with perfect view out of the window. Regrettably when taking a bath we noticed the bath tub had not been sufficiently cleaned. The dinner we had was gourmet-like: very delicious, but too few to fill for a hungry tourist stomach. Overall, Fernhill is an unforgettable experience and a perfect location at one of the most wonderful places on earth.

We have stayed at The Fernhill once and eaten there twice. Both experiences were superb. The room that we stayed in was incredibly comfortable with plenty of space and fantastic views over the picturesque village of Portpatrick.

The restaurant is superb with delicious, well cooked meals. The bar has a superb collection of malts, sufficient for the most discerning of drinkers.
