“Fantastic hotel”

We stayed one night at the Fernhill in Portpatrick. On entry we were knocked out by the view over the harbour. The lady in reception was very welcoming, with a glass of sherry and upgraded us from Standard to superior room (overlooking harbour)
The room was spacious and clean. Only problem for me was the bed was soft.
The standard of the meal was first class. We ate in the conservatory and the only downside was that there were two parties in beside us and the other room seemed quieter but they were setting up for breakfast whiklst we were eating.

Room Tip: Superior rooms do have superior view if you think it is worth it to pay the extra. It depends how mu...

We found the Fernhill during a previous visit to Port Patrick and decided to treat ourselves to a long weekend break. Our stay was excellent from start to finish. We were offered a glass of sherry on arrival and also assistance with our luggage. My husband is very interested in the history of where we stay and Carolyn had sorted out books on all the subjects he had expressed particular interest in within a very short time. The view of the harbour from our room was spectacular and the room itself very spacious and comfortable. There was a small problem when we arrived in that the tv in our room wasn't working but Carolyn arranged for it to be looked at by other members of staff and when they couldn't get it working she brought a replacement - all sorted out within half an hour. We were booked on a dinner bed and breakfast basis and the restaurant staff were really friendly and helpful and the food beautifully prepared and presented. All in all it was a lovely relaxing experience - just what we needed after what has been a very stressful year for us. We were made to feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. We are planning on returning next year and taking my mother for some more pampering.

The Fernhill is quite expensive for what it is but better rates are available for online booking. However, be aware that when booking online there is no option to select twin or double room, only twin/double.
The 'welcome glass of sherry' seems to be offered to some guests and not others, we weren't offered and wondered why?
The seaview rooms are big and comfortable with low but comfy beds and clean bathrooms.
On our stay we were in no hurry away in the morning but our breakfast order took ages to be served - how long can it take to prepare a cooked breakfast from scratch? We were in the breakfast room from 9.30am - 10.50am, the tea we were served when we sat down had gone stone cold and we had to order more.
All in all a comfortable stay.

Room Tip: Make sure you specify whether you want a double or a twin

We regularly spend a couple of nights at the Fernhill and are never disappointed. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The food is very good indeed. The rooms are traditional and very clean. The hotel is family run and makes no attempt to be a boutique or high fashion statement. The food is traditional but with modern twists and is certainly not pretentious. We would certainly highly recommend a visit. They will arrange golf for you at surrounding local courses which are excellent.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms give a great view of the harbour and across to Ireland.

Give yourself a treat and stay at the Fernhill, excellent hotel & location, first class food and staff. For an additional treat book a room with a sea view, we had a lovely spacious room with balcony overlooking the picturesque village and harbour.
A great area for golfers with plenty of good courses on the doorstep.
Definately one to visit

Room Tip: Book a room with sea view & balcony

My wife and I, both in our sixties, recently stayed 3 nights and couldn't fault the place. We had the ground floor of the stables block which is in effect a suite with a wonderful sea view. If you were unfortunate enough to be confined to your room this is about as good as you could get anywhere, certainly at the price. Food was beautifully cooked though the style is perhaps more on presentation than quantity. That said, I am a hearty eater and found 3 courses satisfying. Service was friendly and efficient. Everything seemed to run like clockwork, even down to a welcoming glass of sherry on arrival. Highly recommended.

We recently stayed in the Fernhill which is in the lovely village of Portpatrick with its picturesque fishing port. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the stable block. I felt the prices were on the high side although the room was comfortable and peaceful. The room was advertised with lovely views and a spa bath. You could not see out the window unless you stood up. The bathroom needed a complete make-over as the wallpaper was peeling off the walls and the windows were black with condensation. The spa bath was unusable - when I turned on the spa black specs of mould came out of the tubes. I told the receptionist about it and would like to know if it is still in operation!! The food in the dining room was excellent and the staff could not do enough for us. I would definitely return but not to that room!!
