We had lunch at the Crown on the 14th Feb. What a big disappointment The three meals we had were all cold Two seafood pancakes & 1 cod & holinday sauce. The menue described the pancakes were with fish & shellfish our's didn't have the shellfish. If they were not available we should have been asked if we wanted the pancakes or wished to pick something else. The veg for the cod were stone cold never even been heated. The chips on the top of the little dish wer hot but the ones on the bottom were cold. No offer from owner to look after us on next visit and yes jinkyjoe1 we were in the Crown Portpatrick. We always eat here when in Portpatrick but will try some where different next time

hello
i am sorry you feel that you didnt enjoy your meals.
when i heard about the complaint i managed to see the dishes that had been cooked for you.i asked would you like to come to the restaurant area where i could discuss the matter with yourselves.
this was when we all agreed that the meals had all been ate, except for a few chips and one portion of cold vegetables (which i apologised for at the time)
as the 3 seafood meals are cooked from scratch i feel that they would of been raw and inedible if they had been cold.the 2 seafood pancakes are finished under a grill with cheese and even after your meals had been finished the plates were all still warm.
the seafood pancakes on the dy in question contained cod, salmon and prawns.
i am sorry but i found it hard to deal with alot of your compalint as the food had already been eaten.

Had lunch on 28th December during a week long stay in Portpatrick.
Managed to find a table in the cosy bar beside the fire. Fresh tasty seafood for both, highly recommended.
Back on Hogmanay for a few drinks too.
Veery good indeed.

My husband and I visited the Crown Hotel restaurant on 6th January. My husband ordered the cod loin au poivre and this was an amazing dish and a very sizeable portion. The previous reviewer must have been in a different restaurant. I ordered the Thai chicken sizzlers which were the best I have ever tasted. My husband is quite a big lad and he was full after lentil soup and his fish dish. When we return I will order the Cod as when I tasted it it was absolutely brilliant. Highly recommended. Food staff and service all excellent

We paid a visit to The Crown over Christmas during a stay in the area and were very disappointed with the food we chose.

The fish dish cooked in butter and a dill sauce but had an awful burnt taste and was over-powered by a pepper.

The Homemade Braised Steak & Ale in a “Pudding” tasted anything but homemade and the steak was suspiciously uniformed in shape and size and had an unpleasant taste. The 'pudding' was in fact a mass produced Yorkshire pudding and sadly was the best item of the meal.

We decided to not take the risk with dessert.

It didn't help that the owner needed prompting to ask if we'd enjoyed our meal when it came to paying the bill and then simply offered to 'look after us on our next visit'.

hello
sorry to hear about your experience at the crown portpatrick.
i am baffled with this complaint.
the cod fillet au poivre as stated on the menu is cooked with cracked black pepper and fresh dill butter.
i have a photograph of your returned dish(which i would happily email to anyone who wants to see it,but obviously i dont want my review page loaded with empty plates.)
you managed to eat all but a spoonfull of your meal.if it was burnt surely you would have complained at the time.

the steak and ale is our most popular meat dish on the menu we probaly have served at least a 100 portions in the last seven days.it is homemade steak and ale with a yorkshire pudding.the yorkshire pudding is bought from one of our suppliers.
suspiciously uniformed in shape and size? im flabbergasted.what is this supposed to mean?
you complained that the potatoes were cold and yet when i managed to view your food (which i managed to do,although you complained as you where leaving which left me little time to rescue the evidence)the potatoes where still warm ten minutes after you left.the chefs even cut one open and did a temperature reading.

your review also fails to mention that you had (in your own words)two very nice starters

if you are going to review then it would be nice to give all the experience instead of what i feel was not the full picture.

i was working on the bar the day in question and remember seeing you.it was a very busy day and we had six waiting staff serving meal in the bar.if there was something wrong with your meal and you felt that strongly that you didnt enjoy then surely there must of been an opportunity to have mentioned this to the waitng staff who would have been milling around.

it may be that the starters and the main course that you managed to eat was the real reason why you didnt 'risk' desert

for any reviewers reading i hope that you will manage to form your opinion of our restaurant from a balance of reviews not just this one.thanks

The Crown Hotel serves some of the best seafood we've had in Scotland--certainly the best in a pub. Located on the busy Portpatrick harbor, the Crown's pub is always busy. We staked out a table and had a leisurely drink before ordering dinner. The bacon wrapped scallop starter was delicious and both the cod and mackerel mains were excellent. Definitely deserving of all its awards.

Thank Bob J
