Beinglas Farm Campsite

We used 3 campsites on the WHW & I found this one the best.

Located right on the trail the best part for me was the bar food which was comparable to many bars in Glasgow & better than some too. I would recommend the Beinglas Bustin Burger but from what I could see most meals offered good sized portions.

The shop also provides with many items from food/snacks to camping equipment. I also found the staff friendly & efficient.

We arrived here after a very hard and long day and although we were in good spirits the woman that runs this place was clearly having a very angry day and made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable. She was also rude when we enquired about packed lunches and breakfast in the morning. The Wigwam itself was very cold, the heater wouldnt generate much heat at all and we had a pretty uncomfortable nights sleep. In saying that it was quite cheap so a classic case of you get what you pay for. But ultimately it was her attitude that put us off this place. After a hard days trek I would never recommend that service to anyone, a stark contrast to the exceptional friendliness we received at other places along the West Highland Way.

We visited Beinglas Campsite whilst walking the WHW last year, the facilities and the staff were excellent. We were very impressed.

On our return visit this year the facilities remained great, the staff/management and food from the bar/restaurant however were TERRIBLE!! All staff that we encountered were unhelpful, rude and generally unpleasant. The food was appalling - in particular the cooked breakfast was inedible - we joked that the sausages may have been boiled, on reflection this may have been true!

In summary - this campsite is great if you need to have a hot, clean shower after a long day walking. Just pray you don't have to deal with any of the staff, or worse. . . eat the breakfast!!!

After a disappointing experience with the Drovers Inn this place cheered me up. They have various options to meet every budget. If you want comfort they have 8 wooden chalets that provide a comfortable bed and your own shower. The room was clean and well maintained, but was very hot as the radiators were switched on when we arrived. I turned off the radiators and went for a few drinks at the bar. By the time I returned the room was an ideal temperature.

Only problem was the water pressure was a little low for the shower but it was still usable. The breakfast if free if you have a chalet and had the standard options. Service was efficient. The breakfast room became the bar and dinner room in the evening, food was reasonably priced and they accept credit cards (but no Amex - although this is usual outside the city centres) for all purchases over £10.

The farm also houses a campsite and wigwams for those who want a self catering option. There's a room provided with cooking and washing facilities for those who want to cook their own dinner. There's a shop that sells reasonably priced food, soft drinks and various items of use to walkers.

Unlike the Drovers Inn, what you get matches what they list on their website so you should know what to expect.

Another cheap and cheerful stop on the West Highland Way. Four guys in a wigwam was a bit cramped, but a good laugh, after trekking from Balmaha (wish we'd got a chalet though).
A variety of good clean facilities topped off by a good bar and a more than decent restaurant.
Communication with staff was difficult at times, however I'm not sure if that was our Glaswegian or their Polish.

Beinglas farm is a welcome sight after a tough day walking the West Highland Way. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We stayed in a wigwam which was clean, cosy, comfortable and surprisingly spacious. We also had dinner and breakfast there. Both were very good. Showers were clean but only 2 ladies showers so be prepared to queue at busy times. Wee shop also seemed well stocked. Have shed type area for own cooking, drying etc. Overall a good facility.

We booked Bed and Breakfast in the new chalets at Beinglas and found them very comfortable with ensuite shower rooms. we could sit outside on a veranda, midges permitting!
Opposite us was the check in, bar and restaurant. There was also a shop selling food and usual camping supplies. The hired staff were ok but not over helpful.
We had a good meal at the bar in the evening and breakfast was very good too.
You could order a packed lunch or just buy rolls and fruit at the shop.
As Beinglas is right on the West Highland way it is a perfect overnight stop. Camping looked good but they were plagued by midges!! There are also wooden Teepees which are more basic but cheaper of course.
