This was our first holiday with Highland Heritage. Excellent hotel with so much character, Staff were excellent. Even the manager was waiting on tables. Alex the manager was brillient, being vegetarian Alex organised the rest of the week menu with us the following day. It was lovely to see friut, tea & biscuits facillities. Well done to Phil & Linda were our driver, never a dull moment. This holiday was my dream come true as i always wanted to visit scotland.

Bath Room Tip - There is no seal under the shower screento rest on the edge of the bath. so when we have a shower the floor gets wet so please put a small towel on the floor so you do not slip on the wet floor (Health & Safety) Room number 48 on 7 October 2013 We still love to visit Scotland with Highland Heritage. A Big thank you to Mr Cleaver for organising a very good trips. Hoping to see you next year. Merry Xmas and a Happy new year 2014

Room Tip: Ask for double or single beds. Quieter side.

Just completed a 5 night six day holiday staying at the Royal. This was a very slick operation managed from the time you board the coach to the moment you leave it. You hand over your cases on boarding and next see them sitting in your hotel room. The hotel was comfortable and pleasant to stay in. Our room was clean and tidy with all necessary facilities and quite acceptable. We had received a free upgrade to Premier grade room, so am not sure what the standard rooms were like. The food was simple and well cooked each course having a choice of two or three alternatives. I was favourably impressed with the quality, though if fine dining is what you seek this is not for you. Meal times are set, but this is inevitable when running such a large operation with so few staff. The staff are predominantly East European, but the majority have good English and they are all very charming and exceptionally hardworking. Entertainment was provided in the hotel lounge in the evenings, some of it good some of it less so, but that is a matter of personal taste. The excursions were well organised with sufficient time to see the places of interest and discounts negotiated on entrance fees to certain locations. For a holiday like this you do need decent weather and we were relatively fortunate. Overall it was a good experience and incredibly good value for money.

Room Tip: Look for the bargain offers and try to get a free upgrade if you can.

We have just returned from a short break at the Royal , We had no pre conseptions so were under no illusions, but found it a lovely time, the manager Alex was so polite, the staff were all friendly and helpful, they worked so hard, there is 15 staff for 180 guests when full, and they multi task.
The trips were tiring but we saw lots and was quite taken with Fort William and Oban.
The food was what you expect for mass catering and for the cost of the trip was acceptable, the bed was so comfortable, but the people above us walked about creaking the floor and the walls are quite thin, but none of this ruined our holiday and just to cap it all off we would definately go again.

Room Tip: Perhaps ask for a top floor room.

We have just returned from the Royal Hotel in Tyndrum. What a fantastic vacation we had. We were so very impressed by the first class treatment we received at this hotel. Alex, the manager was very attentive when we arrived at the hotel ahead of the bus tour. (we had transferred from he Dalmally Hotel) He ensured that our room was ready early and even provided a light lunch!

The staff are hardworking and attentive. I asked for coffee on the first morning with my breakfast and each day thereafter my table had both tea and coffee. The scenery is spectacular and we enjoyed visiting the Green Welly, the local pub and the tourist information shop! We are geocachers and were pleased to find a few caches in the immediate area. Loved the trails behind the hotel and would have like a little more downtime to explore them further.

On the downside, our pillows were awful....very lumpy and barely useable! We enjoyed the outing to Edinburgh although we would have liked more time there...and the trip to Oban was great. We were disappointed with the outing to Fort Agustus...it seemed like it was just a trip to say "been to Loch Ness". Wished we had opted out of the optional day and done more exploring closer to the hotel. With regard to the trips....we were fed up with all of the visits to Edinburgh Mill Shops...they all sold the same things and it was so repetitive. Very touristy and tacky....

Our driver, Colin (and Neil who covered on his day off) were good natured, informative and very good drivers. We felt completely confident with their driving and enjoyed their banter during the trip.

Some of the evening entertainment did not appeal to us as we are in younger demographic than the majority of other guests. An option would be a visit to the Pub across the road or a quick walk over to the Ben Doran to see what is happening there.

We did not go to the concert in Oban as we had seen it the week prior. Once was enough....music was great...but it went on too long with too much talking and plant distribution. More music, less talking would have been better.

Food was very good. Piping hot every day and lots of variety. I really cannot see how anyone could complain about the food.

In summary:

Less Mill Shops
Less talking at concert
Less lumpy pillows!

More time in Edinburgh
More internet access locations (we were tired of lurking outside the lift so we could Skype our kids)
More varied entertainment.

Kudos to the very hardworking staff team at the Royal!

Room Tip: Rooms away from the staff quarters would likely be quieter. But they worked so hard in a lot a ways...

Ok, please read this review fully as it will mean different things to different people.
We have just done the 5 day stay at the Royal hotel, we initially wanted to see Loch ness and some of the sites in Scotland and the Highlands and Highland Heritage offered this opportunity at a very good price, but with all but one of us being in our 40,s we were definitely the youngsters on this trip. Most of the other travellers were quite considerably older and very much older and I feel this age group 65+ (some in there 90,s ) is the target group of Highland Heritage and I feel this fact should be somewhere in the literature provided.
The staff are all eastern Europeans and Alex the manager hails from Transalvania, they are all very attentive and hard working and are a credit to the hotel. but engage them in anything other than dining room talk and they don't understand. We were allotted a table which would be ours for the duration of our stay, slightly small and not much room for drinks etc but ok. The food was served once everyone was seated and was very poor to be honest although the other guests were very appreciative.
Our room was dull, dark and very very hot, we turned off all the heating and opened the window immediately, the bed had a strange smell and was the hardest bed we had ever encountered anywhere in the world. On the first night at 03:30 am who-ever was above us decided to pace up and down continually and open and close every drawer in their room until breakfast time, and the floors creaked like hell and like the walls were paper thin, this episode ensured both our neighbours next door and ourselves slept on the coach most of the next day, as we were too tired to fully take in the first trip.
Trips were ok, Edinburgh, Fort William, Loch Ness Oban etc were good days out made even better by our driver Jeff who was a great narrator and source of information for them all. Our only concern was that the optional "extra" day out which was £13 each was the trip we thought was included which was Loch Ness and the only one we really wanted but hey ho... The last trip was Oban and the concert... Oban was a lovely seaside town and the 2 hour concert there was not for us, we left after ten minutes, we could not have sat on those seats for 2 hours in a community hall that had a very peculiar smell, this day in our opinion should have been the "optional" trip, or had the opportunity of a boat trip which would have been nice and more appealing than a 2 hour concert.
All said it was mostly enjoyable and a very economic way to see things we wanted to see, and nearly all of the people we met had a fantastic time and were rebooking straight away and some had been coming for years so Mr Heritage is doing them a very good service, and hopefully one that will continue so we can in 30 years or so rejoin them. It was just for us a little too soon..

Room Tip: Get a room on the top floor, creaking floorboards are an issue.

This was my first break with Highland Heritage, excellent hotel so much character, staff were excellent so efficient, friendly, Alex the manager, was excellent. Tip the waiting staff well they so deserve it. I did not find any problem with the bar service, you can still buy a drink before dinner and take it into the dining room. Tyndrum is an excellent base, if you want to travel around the Highlands. The train journey from Oban is magic.Geoff was our driver who was terrific,Fruit and biscuits in your room is a bonus, you don't normally get with coaching holidays. The only downside I found, although I wasn't affected by it, was On the trip to Fort William there was 4 or 5 who wasn't very agile, as we were only there for a short time, the coach dropped us off at one end of the high street and picked us up at the other end. one or two wanted to stay on the coach, as it was a very tireing day for them. Geoff informed them that as he has to lock up the coach no passengers are allowed to stay on. This being company policy. Lastly I loved Mr. Cleavers plants what a lovely welcome

It was our first trip with highland heritage & what a holiday from the driver " Frank " & all the staff up to Alex the manager they all made us welcome. It was a very busy holiday & we seemed to be on the go all the while. The food & service were exceptional & due to staff shortages it was strange to see the manager waiting on tables. All in all a very enjoyable holiday.

Room Tip: anything above ground floor sometimes means you have to wait for a lift.
