Positive: The location was amazing: the room was overlooking Loch Lomond which was awesome. The room itself was spacious, light and clean. In general, the hotel offers a very comfortable getaway. They also have a lovely beer garden right next to the loch. Breakfast was good.

Negative: Most of the staff were very unprofessional, especially the evening/bar staff. They claim to have excellent pub food - they don't (£11 for their burger is way overpriced, as it's just a cheap bun with meat and chips - no cheese (or option for), no salad, no tomato, nothing.)

A much more challenging day on the West Highland Way so we were glad to arrive here. Our room was well-equipped and clean. We had a shower but some rooms have baths. Food in the restaurant was a little disappointing; I had deliberately chosen local dishes but the cullen skink was average and the salted cod accompaniments were good but there was very little cod.
The setting of the hotel is very good but unfortunately people coming back from the loch could look straight into our room - net curtains would help !!

Very disappointing - avoid room 12 in particular - it overlooks the kitchen, with the kitchen air ducts humming loudly outside the window and the kitchen stereo loud enough to make you think you we're at a disco

Beds were rock hard, room tiny, breakfast pretty bad, with dirty crockery

My wife and I stayed in this hotel on 29th August2013 while walking the West Highland Way. We were allocated a room on the ground floor adjacent to the rear door of the kitchen. We were concerned that there would be noise from the kitchen but this ceased after 9.00pm but there was a continuous humming noise from a cooling fan. I spoke to staff in the kitchen at around 10.00pm and we closed all the windows in our room to reduce the noise. It was assumed the noise would cease when the bar closed. However I checked again at 11.00pm and was advised the the fan would stay on all night and no one else had ever complained about it. We had a poor night sleep as the fan not only hummed all the time but also the level of noise went up and down presumably as the thermostat clicked on and off.
We were advised when paying our bill that the manager would contact us when we returned home to discuss the problem. This did not happen. However when we complained through booking.com we were advised that no-one else had never complained and that we had left our windows open all night...
Maybe we are just too sensitive but we definitely shut windows before trying cotton wool in ears to block noise!!
We stayed at 8 different location while walking the West Highland Way and this was the not only the most expensive but also the only one that gave us cause for complaint.

Only had meal here after climbing Ben Lomond definitely a hill walkers hotel as its long way from anything. I came in at tail end of rush so was served quickly & they managed to find me a table. Food was alright but as many said over priced for what do get.

However place had good atmosphere & old style Scottish pub!! Not to bad but a refurbishment would help!

Rowardennan hotel bunkhouse

The hotel is a nice old building on the shores of the loch. Its a little south of the village so it's a bit of a trek to the shops, but its right on the West Highland Way.

The Bunkhouse is a plastic portacabin split into 4 separate rooms, each with 1 double bunk.
This would be very handy if in a pair, I was lucky enough not to be sharing.

The interior is pretty austere: sturdy bunks and shelves handmade from MDF and a low energy lightbulb with no lampshade. It has power points, a window and fresh clean bedding.
The shower is good and water hot.

Problems are the whole structure seems to squeak and rumble when people move around and it's generally a bit grim, but its clean.

The Clansman bar is a large converted barn on the side of the hotel.
It has traditional wooden beams and stags heads on the wall but has been modernised with IKEA style furniture and T-bars serving Stella (no real ales).
There's a pretty meaty sound systems, knocking out indie/rock music and Neighbours playing on the plasma screen.
It reminded me of Newquay, albeit without the Scousers and vomit.

I think there may have been a more traditional bar in the hotel that I only saw in the morning

I had a fish and chips, which was pretty good and up to the general standard of Scottish pub grub. It really hit the spot, bearing in mind that after slogging it 15 miles from Dymen with a monster hangover a Halal fried road kill would have nailed it.

The staff were nice and helpful and no complaints about the breakfast.
