“Welcoming Staff”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

The hotel has had some recent refurbishment and my room was clean and functional. The staff make you feel very welcome and as I had arrived after evening dinner service in the pub had finished, they let me eat my chip supper in the bar.

My room had no bath but a lovely big shower and if you wait long enough you do get lots of hot water. Room had a single bed (booked through my work as a single I guess) which whilst reasonably comfortable was too small for me (a 17st bloke). Tea and coffee facilities supplied and I had a side facing room away from road so was not noisy at all. Curtain did block quite a lot of light but some does escape at the sides to wake you as the sun rises.

English Breakfast was standard fair although I personally would have liked 2 sausages as they were quite small. Unlike other posts I had no problems with my radiator and whilst not my first choice of hotel if I was paying, I would happily stay again. On a par with a good Travelodge.

We enjoyed this basic little hotel with wonderful views of the loch. Staff friendly, meals very well priced and our new favourite "Irn Bru" on tap. Lovely walk into town. You know we have stayed in 5 star but this hotel brings back warm memories.

After a very dissappointing stay at a hotel in Dumfries (Urr Valley). We were thrilled to receive a warm welcome from the staff at the Ardencaple. The family room was on the ground floor at the back (230). It was clean, a bit cramped with a double and two singles, but very comfortable beds, large bathroom and plenty of tea/coffee makings. All the staff were bright, attentive and couldn't do enough to help (even to reserving a table at a local chinese restaurant). The bar/restaurant was always full (with locals and holidaymakers), service was speedy and food was standard pub fare, but good portions and value for money. We paid almost exactly the same amount for two nights at the Ardencaple as we had done for one night at the terrible Urr Valley hotel in Castle Douglas...what a difference! Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Room 230 on ground floor good for families...relatively quiet from traffic noise but some noise from...

The Ardencaple is by far the best hotel we have stayed in when visiting family in the area. The welcome is warm and the rooms are warm and comfortable, we had a double and two single rooms next to each other and they were all lovely. The breakfast is very good and great value. The family joined us for a meal on Saturday, there were ten of us and the food and service were excellent and the drinks did not break the bank. Thank you again to Brigitte and the staff for a lovely weekend. Can't wait to go back.

We arrived and Brigitte gave us a choice of rooms - we chose one on the top floor overlooking the loch. This was probably not a brilliant idea on our part because the traffic noise was evident but you do get used to it. The breakfast is superb and I cannot praise the staff enough for their helpful attitude throughout the stay.
See you next time.

Well.. where do I start!! The beginning probably...
When we arrived it was more like coming to stay with an Aunt than checking into a hotel. The room was warm and comfortable, with character as opposed to other hotels. After solving the labyrinth kindly set up for me to find my room, it was all I hoped for to relax. When we were not at 'work', the hotel was a lovely place to elax during our visit. Sampling the local beverages was a particular highlight, all the time with service with a smile! The food was lovely, perfect for filling up after such a hard days work, with the menu hard to choose from because of such wonderful choice. And the service!! Simply fantastic! With the wonderful Cherly and beautiful Francis always on hand and eager to replenish your drink of choice gladly with a simple wave of your glass! Understanding and simpathetic when you need to sneak a quick pepsi or half in because you overdone the afternoon session. Welcoming greetings such as 'are you two still here?' making breakfast a warm delight ;-) lol. The banter and friendliness of the staff can not be underestimated. Bit shy with the toast mind you in the morning!! Assuming I am not barred yet and am back in the area, I would gladly stay at this hotel again... even just for the staff, who are all wonderful!!!!!

We regularly eat here and are never disapointed.

I can only suggest that the 3 bad reviews are all suspect as someone who is very picky and has submitted 3 reviews under different names!

The food is good, excellent value. Great offers on drinks and a good wine list.

The staff are kind, courteous and have good banter. There is a great number of patrons who keep coming back for more to "The Caple" whether it be for food or drink.

Would recommend to anyone from the locality or in the passing!
