“Lovely Hotel, Nice Room & Great Location, but very let down by the service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2010

The Lodge is in a perfect location, on the banks of Loch Lomond with great views. We stayed in a Munro room, which is one of the newer rooms in the Spa building.

The room was great - very spacious, nice views of the Loch, a balcony, nice deep bath, bathrobes, comfy bed and a sitting area. The bath and shower being in the room, was a bit strange, but it was fine.

We also enjoyed the spa while we were here, which has a good sized pool and a jacuzzi + a sauna, steam room and laconium. We were the only people in there early on the Friday evening which was nice.

Unfortunately our stay was spoiled by our restaurant dinner. Although the restaurant itself was lovely and most of the food we had was enjoyable, the service was absolutely awful.

The main problem was at the end of the meal when we were given the bill for the table behind us (who had already left). We told the waiter that we had the wrong bill and waited around 15 minutes for them to sort it out. Unfortunately, rather than coming back with the correct bill, they came back with the same bill, with certain parts scored out and a new total at the end (which was still wrong). We told them about this, waited another 5 minutes until a lady came back and tried to tell us that this was the correct total and explained it to us a few times in a very patronizing manner. She then added it up with a calculator and realised that it actually was wrong, then went away again while we waited for the correct total.

In the end we did get the correct bill but instead of a sincere apology the staff seemed to just blame each other instead. In addition to this:
- we were brought the wrong drinks before the meal - a vodka instead of a gin, both of which appeared on our bill.
- We were given two wine menus and a dinner menu instead of 2 dinner menus and a wine menu,
- we had to order water 3 times before we received it
- I was given blue cheese on my cheese plate after specifically saying that I didn't want it.
- My husband ordered a dessert that was called something like "chocolate praline ravioli" which turned out to be 3 slices of banana covered in chocolate and nuts with a single peice of the ravioli on top. Banana wasn't mentioned anywhere on the menu, but 90% of the dish was banana. The waiter didn't seem to be too concerned or offer an alternative when he left all of it because of the banana.

Most of these are very minor and if they happened on their own I couldn't care less, but when they happen all at once, it kind of spoils a meal. It was very annoying that the waiting staff were always asking if everything was ok, but when something wasn't ok they just didn't know how to handle it. I felt we should have at least been offered a free drink or not charged a supplement for our cheese, for all these problems, but nothing was offered.

So overall, lovely hotel and rooms but completely unorganised and inadequate dinner service. Perhaps we were just very unlucky, but we are put off coming back here again because of this.

Well done and thank you to The Lodge on Loch Lomond! My husband and I stayed in room 36 (Corbett double) on Saturday night. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - this is a lovely, comfortable hotel.
* A very nice, friendly welcome at Reception
* A lovely room - we loved the balcony and the sauna and the teddy bears and the leather sofa.
* Nice wee leisure club - great steam room, jacuzzi and laconium, although the spiral stairs were very slippery and a bit scary.
* Amazing views.
* Very nice dinner although the portion size of the salmon fillet and risotto could easily be halved - it was way too much food.
* Lovely staff - very well trained and nothing was too much bother for them. Everyone was so nice.
* Really excellent breakfast - all the hot food on the buffet was very high quality and served good and hot. Maybe heat the plates too?

We will definitely be back and will recommend to all our friends! A lovely stay. We often stay in hotels all around Scotland and very few actually score so highly. They should be proud of their high standards.

Great rooms. Great view of Loch Lomond. Food Absolutely fantastic. Great treatments at the spa, best shave ever. Finally, fantastic buffet breakfast.Beware, using the sauna will make the room quite toasty for the rest of the evening.

This was a 60th birthday surprise from my husband, we had a Corbett room overlooking the loch, very comfortable, newly refurbished to a high standard. I have an intolerance to dairy products from cows milk. The Chef and staff were extremely helpful and attentive, altering dishes to suit my dietary needs. Cooking a special request dessert on the night of my birthday. Nothing was ever a problem, would highly recommend this hotel and will return in the not too distant future.

My husband and I stayed here for one night 6 Dec 09 for our wedding anniversary. We stayed in one of the Graham rooms and we had a lovely surprise when we went into our room. The room was looking over the loch with a kingsize bed and a two-seater leather sofa and chair, also a flat screen tv with all movies. As if that wasn't enough, the bathroom area had a separate toilet room, then another section had a spa bath, two wash hand basins, and the best bit - our very own double unit sauna! We also had bathrobes which we never expected. There is also a leisure part with a pool and a gym but we never used that as we loved our sauna! We had a snack in the lounge in the afternoon and had booked a table for the evening meal. The food I have to say was delicious and the presentation was fabulous. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and although the weather wasn't great, it didn't matter as we were in a lovely environment and we enjoyed every minute of it. I would recommend the Lodge on Loch Lomond to anyone and I imagine if going in the summer months, it would be out of this world. We will definitely be back again.

Myself and my husband have just returned from a two night break at lodge on the loch and cant wait to go back. Everything was perfect. The location looking over loch lomond is beautiful and having a room with a balcony we had uninterrupted views. We ate in the hotel restaurant both nights and found a great choice on offer - the steak being particularly good! The choice at breakfast was also very good and i can highly recommend the toasted crumpet with crispy bacon and maple syrup and the smoked poached haddock. The staff were all lovely and very helpful especially Jennifer on reception who helped us jump start our car on the morning we were leaving, it was much appreciated. .

An all too short one night stay for a 50th birthday treat. Lovely hotel in an amazing position. Our room was lovely and overlooked the loch. Fantastic to see the moonlight on the loch at night and the sunrise in the morning. Dinner was great and breakfast was really good too. If booking a table ask for one at the window and just sit and be awed by the view. Fun to walk along the beach and up into Luss. We were lucky with the weather and although cold was crisp and dry and just perfect for enjoying the scenery. A great hotel for a special get away from it all treat and I would imagine fantastic for a function. Would definately go back again.
